We were taken to lunch here by a local. After we came downhill from the Fortress we walked back up narrow streets and into the entry of Stieglkeller, up several more flights of stairs with great deer antlers and portraits until we reached the first dining rooms ( you can sit out on the open courtyard shaded by trees. And all overlooking Salzburg. Decor is traditional, the menu is properly Austrian and quite extensive, the staff wear traditional costume and the service is speedy. We had beef goulash with dumpling, and battered vegetables with aoli, and Stiegl beers, every table inside was full, outside was less busy because of the cold but it is a very popular place. I was glad we were taken there. I would never have known it was there.
