Amazing hotel with very friendly staff

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 7, 2024via mobile
We stayed in 8 different hotels during our vacation to Iceland, and greatly enjoyed staying here. My opinion may be somewhat biased based on the fact we stayed in the penthouse suite, but everything about this hotel was done with class. Our balcony view was amazing, and the room was very spacious. This hotel is about a mile or so away from the touristy downtown area, which is refreshing. It is definitely a much larger hotel than the others we stayed in, but the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. As a side note, the morning breakfast was probably the best of all the places we stayed at.

Room Tip: Outside parking is free, but they charge to use the parking garage

We will never recommend this hotel to our friends and family after experiencing the terrible behavior we received by two of the management staff.. The hotel itself was great, however customer service is big in my book. We are paying guests of the hotel ! We were travelling with a tour group that had booked many rooms at this hotel. But on our last day as our group was checking out , we had some problems with the tour bus, so we were all waiting for the next bus to come. During this time , some of our friends started to eat some snacks amongst them , it at this time two of the management team members came to us and very rudely informed us we cannot eat in the lobby. We understand maybe rules are different in Iceland and food may not be allowed to eat in the lobby , but there is a way to express this message. The way the two people conveyed their message was so insulting and demeaning as if were homeless and class citizens. We were not respected at all!
We do intend to come back to Iceland one summer , however we will never return to this hotel . Hopefully the upper management team trains the staff on proper customer service.

Dear Corpallas,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.
First, I apologize if our message about consuming food in the lobby came across in a way that felt impolite or unwelcoming. Our lobby doubles as a bar, and as in many hotels worldwide, we follow a policy that food in these areas is limited to items purchased on the premises. However, this message should always be conveyed in a respectful and friendly manner, and I’m genuinely sorry if we fell short in this regard.

Our team is trained to uphold a warm, inclusive atmosphere, and I regret if this incident overshadowed your overall experience. Thank you again for your feedback, which helps us improve. I hope your Icelandic travels were otherwise enjoyable, and we’d love to welcome you back one day for an experience that’s as warm as it should be.

Best regards,
Bartek Zabel

Staff are very accommodating, courteous and friendly. It’s situated near the center of the city where you can walk easily to the church, port or station in a good day.

The hotel was very nice. Our room was facing the atrium, so we didn’t hear any street noise. It was just a short walk to the seaside. The breakfast was excellent, with a very wide selection that everyone could choose from. I highly recommend it.

The rooms are clean and spacious, location is bit far from the city center. The restaurant downstairs are wonderful, both the food quality and service. But the staffs in the front desk are very rude and uncooperative. My room went out power when my wife try to boil some water. We went to ask for help in the front desk, instead of helping us right away, the lady keeps asking what else we did with the electric outlet. I told her we did nothing with the outlet, and it’s their priority to get the power back instead asking all kinds of questions! Overall I felt the staffs in the front desk are not customer friendly and all about they are right and customer are at fault! I stayed at this location for more than twice and more than five days, and I never had a favorable impression with the people in the front desk, including checking in process, helping make dinner reservations and storing bags at their storage! I really don’t think I will comeback to stay at this hotel again next month!😔

Unfortunately beds way way too soft and uncomfortable (for me). Was an attempt to be fair to try and make it firmer but alas did not work. Room too hot and no method of reducing temp and poor water pressure and shower facilities. Some staff need to engage and acknowledge gusts being there as no interaction. Disappointed hotel experience really for the cost and no Spa facilities just made it poorer and less enjoyable. Will I stay again ???? Not sure.
