Lovely

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 5, 2024
Overall the hotel was lovely and a perfect base for our trip. Our room was fairly compact but very comfortable and well equipped. The hotel is perfectly located for exploring downtown Reykjavik being right on the main shopping street, Laugavegur which does get busy on Friday and Saturday nights but our room was well away from the street so we didn't hear any noise. Breakfast is a standard continental style buffet with plenty of options.

We stayed for 2 nights. Great hotel. Very welcoming. Very clean. The bed was super comfortable. SANDHOLT cafe next door is a bonus. We were at the front and there was a little early morning noise from deliveries on the street but a minor point

The hotel is in downtown Reykjavik, but still so quiet inside the hotel and the room.
The room was big, very clean and with all the amenities needed. The hotel is soooo warm after the long days out (in some pretty awful weather whilst we were there).
If and when we return to Iceland, I’d want to stay here again.

The hotel is modern, clean, well appointed and in a great location right on the walking street. We found the service to be generally good, but on a couple of occasions with some concerns, the staff was a bit dismissive. The breakfast was fine (although custom coffee was charged for), the happy hour promised to be nice (but very restrictive on the actual drinks offered). The major issue we had was that the best rooms offered are actually on the top floor, but the roof beams intruded into our room so much that my wife and I hit our heads on the beam 6 times in our first night there. A very bad feature in an otherwise nice hotel…would recommend not choosing those rooms.

The room supposedly has underfloor heating - but this did not work. Thankfully, they immediately offered us another room, which was smaller than ours. Cleaning and generally fresh towels cost extra. The breakfast was ok - a normal coffee is free (if you have booked breakfast) and everything else costs extra (cappuccino and so on).

The hotel is in a busy street and really in the center - so the location is good. However, there is NO parking lot provided by the hotel or it is difficult to find cheap parking.

I found the service at the bar negative. The waitress just sat there and noticed us and smiled at us and kept picking at her cell phone! She didn't come to us - and didn't ask us what we wanted to drink. After a few minutes - I went up to her and said hello again and asked if this was self-service. She answered YES. What kind of service is that? Incidentally, it was the same for 3 other guests.
The ashtrays outside were not emptied for 4 days!

The rest was great.

Dear Oktay_91vie,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. It was our pleasure to host you during your recent visit to Reykjavík. I want to thank you for detailed feedback on your experience and you can trust that this will be utilized to further improve our services.

Parking is a challenge in the downtown area in European cities, unfortunately Reykjavík is no excemption. Our 24-hour front desk team is always available and willing to provide direction on where is easiest to park for every guest.

No housekeeping service amenitity comes at additional cost. We have a Go Green strategy where we only service and replenish the rooms on request, this is to minimize our environmental footprint. This is service is included for every guest staying at Sand Hotel.

All guests at Sand Hotel have a complimentary breakfast between 0700-1000 in the breakfast area. Special made, barista coffee comes at additional cost.

I thank you again for valued feedback, which will be addressed. I truly hope your visit to Iceland was everything you hoped for and that we get to welcome you back again on your next visit.

Nice, big showerhead i bathroom. Cosy, albeit small room. Tv remote control a bit tricky to operate. (Too?) smart toggle swiitches for the light. Bed on the soft side. Duvet on the big side - heavy 2 by 2 meters monster that had me pinned down properly. Breakfast very nice - no need to eat bacon and sausages and other vein-clogging food.
