Hotel Pinja is part of Cumulus chain of hotels, with the pros and cons.
Not so expensive, not so fancy either.
The hotel itself consist of two buildings, the older art nouveau building, the annex is from the 90´s (post modernism). There could be a need for a little bit of renovating, but in overall the hotel is clean, tranquil and kind of cozy.
We had an standard twin room. It was spacious enough and the bathroom was ok. The shower corner could use some repairing, cause when showering, water kept running beneath the cubicles walls to the bathroom floor -> wet socks..
There is a minibar in the room, but it´s empty. You must buy the stuff you need from the reception.
Our room was in the 90´s –part of the hotel, facing towards the quiet side street.
The staff at the reception could be little more kind and helpful, but they do they job. The breakfast was relatively nice, everything I need at least (coffee, bread&stuff, eggs, something sweet). Funny detail: instead of bacon, there is black sausage (mustamakkara). Try it with jam of lingonberry. A traditional Tampere –food.. which is actually better when enjoyed outdoors and fresh in Tammela market place.
The location of the hotel is quite nice. Not far from the main street of Tampere (Hämeenkatu) but yet in a quite peaceful environment. The Tampere Cathedral is just around the corner and it`s a must-see, if visiting Tampere as a tourist.
There are nearby two of the most adorable café´s on Tampere; Vohvelikahvila (“The house of waffles”, Ojakatu 2) and the café Runo ( “Café Poet”, Ojakatu 3 ).
