Gorgeous location and outlook; wonderful grand 19th century hotel, and I’m a fan of that.
Lovely decoration and rooms. Very friendly service, although I agree with others that for some reason main reception is slow, rigid and vaguely officious.
The only real issue was the heat wave (30-33C everyday whilst I was there in a city that normally reaches 20C in summer). The hotel, understandably, is not adapted to such temperatures and the rooms are not air conditioned. Given climate change, this will also have to change.
Great bar, terrace and Veranda restaurant.
Tip: when in someone else’s country, one needs to adapt: Scandinavia is highly driven by its egalitarian ethic above all else. Therefore, treat all those in service roles as your equals, not your servants. Be patient as people will not necessarily jump to attention nor faun over you in a ‘customer is King manner’. Give them a moment and you will receive all you need and you’ll probably learn some lessons in life.
