Note well that there is no WC here nor at the H&M across the street, but a short distance away on the square there is a free, clean, and excellent facility below ground. The church is beautiful and it was a pleasure to wander about and see all the details. Sadly, we were not able to hear the organ.

We visited as we were passing by. The church has a very pretty altar and a spectacular organ, which was being played. There are music recitals held here - check the chalk board outside for details. There is a quiet chapel with candles for private prayer. Leaflets can be purchased in a range of languages.

The Church of the Holy Ghost stands on a site it originally occupied as a Monastery since 1296. It received Papal recognition in 1474 when King Kristiern I visited Rome.

The Church was gutted by the great fire of Copenhagen in 1728, however opened four years later in 1732. The altar in impressive -depicting the Ascension of Christ. It was the gift of King Christian VI, when the church reopened after the fire.

Griffenfelds chapel on the north side of the church offers a feeling of serenity and is a place for prayer and contemplation. It was built originally in 1672 by Peter Griffenfeld as a memorial to the death of his young wife. The impressive pulpit is the work of Bissen and Nyrop and dates from 1879. The organ is more modern and is one of the largest in Denmark with just under 500 pipes and 75 stops.

The painting on the transverse (West) wall depicts the annunciation by Joakim Skovgaard and was completed in 1897. The reflection of the gold paint is spectacular in the wings and gown of the angel and of the Rays from heaven.

Whilst I was there there there was an organ practice ongoing which was very pleasant. On leaving the church take the path to the street but stop to look at the memorial to the unknown victim of the holocaust. A large and impressive church. The Church is open from midday to 16.00 hrs Monday to Friday. There is a useful fact sheet for sale at Kr 2.

This church is located along the main shopping street named Stroeget and located in the old Medieval area. It has one of the largest organs in Scandinavia and the facade of the organ dates from 1879. The church began as a Hospital Church in 1296. It then moved on to become an Abbey under the Popes and the Roman Catholic Church but when the Reformation took hold in Denmark and starting in 1530 this church reverted to a Parish Church and non Catholic. It was rebuilt in 1607.

We were lucky to get inside and listen to the live organ music. That was amazing! Also it's a very beautiful building too.
