Owner description: Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the Little Mermaid has watched over Copenhagen's harbor since 1913. In 2010, Den Lille Havfrue, as she is known in Danish, left her post to represent Denmark at the World's Fair in Shanghai.

I would recommend to go see The Little Mermaid, but mostly because of the location. The promenad is beautiful, and so are the views to the sea (and even more when it's sunny). And, of course, the statute is unique and special. It really enjoyed going for a walk there as I love the sea.

However, I think the statue would benefit from a fence or something that would protect it. I must say I felt embarrassed by most tourists' lack of respect (everybody touching it, etc) and was also surprised by the lack of someone looking after it. No wonder that the statue has been object of vandalism.

This has got to be the most underwhelming tourist experience out there. Difficult to get to unless you take the hop on hop off bus, it is small and of no particular beauty. Wouldn’t bother going to see it if you haven’t got time as there is so much more to see and do in Copenhagen.

Hard to get over excited about this. The little mermaid is a statue on the shoreline. It’s a very busy place with lots of crowds, hence getting a photo without crowds is a challenge.

A short walk from Newhavn. We combined with changing of the guard and a visit to the Designmuseum.

Little by way of places for coffee or lunch locally.

Given the importance of the Little Mermaid and Hans Christian Andersen to Danish culture a visit here is worth it. Might get to view some interesting naval activity to boot.

The Little Mermaid is, in fact, little. For some reason, it comes as a surprise to visitors that she is indeed litte.

The story of the Little Mermaid, the original tale told by Hans Christian Andersen, is an important story. It is sad, but nevertheless very important as the Little Mermaid learns the hard way that changing who you are comes at a cost that will leave you stranded on a rock in a hard place. Do yourself a favour and read the original story.

The Little Mermaid has suffered quite a bit, she didn't just lose her voice; she's been decapitated twice and lost an arm - the statue that is. She's been to Japan and now she's back on her stone looking to the sea she left. Langelinje is a great spot for walking and enjoying the waterfront in inner city Copenhagen.
