Although this hotel was nice I also had a nice small medicine bag stolen from out of my suitcase. I think someone thought it was a jewellery bag. Noticed my suitcase was at a funny angle when I came back from dinner. Didn't check it as I was using my carry on bag for loathes. Checked at next hotel and bag missing. Make sure your valuables are locked away!

We spent 1 nights in August in the Vila Gale and were very impressed with the room, breakfast and bar. Breakfast was incredible and was included in the room price. This hotel is located in an area that appeared to be a bit grotty, and requires taxis to and from downtown. Metro and a taxi rank are only 2-3 minutes’ walk away. The Metro even has instructions for tickets and some announcements in English. You can walk to the main tourist area in under 30 minutes, but be prepared for climbing the hills!" Reception staff are not as warm as they might be

We arrived late after a 4 hour delay and without one of our suitcase due to TAP losing it so to arrive at such a friendly hotel was a joy. One female receptionist in particular who was on duty every night during our stay particularly impressed (12-14 August). The hotel is situated near a Metro station which is a direct route (purple line) to and from the airport. Word of warning though the service is every 30 mins which meant we cut it a bit close on our return!! 15E buys you a 3 day pass which you can use on all the Metros and Buses. Not a lot going on around the hotel but easy to get to places and you can walk to the town centre in about 15 mins. There is a Lidl nearby to obtain supplies. Hotel buffet restaurant is good value and we ate there the first night as we were late and tired. The breakfast buffet is particularly impressive with a variety of items to counter for all tastes plus the added bonus of sparkling wine to make Bucks Fizz! The pool is good but could do with opening 1 hour earlier and have a few more chairs as it suffered from the usual placing towels to reserve saga! We requested rooms on a higher lever after reading on here about noise at lower levels. Downside was the lifts are really slow and you wait ages as people are not aware that you can use the staircase so guest were using the lift to go two floors down to reception. Bedrooms were a good size and comfortable. Would recommend staying here.

This hotel is clean and tidy. The have a safe but not working and they say"make your coffee or tea in the comfort of your room" don't believe in it because there is no such thing. This hotel caters tour groups mainly, I think. You will have to walk through an area of cheap fix rental area to get to more tourists area. But there is always taxis.

We stayed in Room 1620 on the hottest days in August 2016, the air conditioning really could not cope and the room was very hot but we had a good view and even though we both slept on not in the beds, they were clean and comfortable. Room was spotless as was the bathroom, breakfast ok, plenty of choice but hot food barely warm. Nice pool on the top floor with lovely view.
