This is the place that has set the new standard for me when it comes to steakhouses. It will be hard to return to one of the many great NYC steakhouses because Muu, to me, is in a class of its own.
I can’t say enough about how delicious this meal was. The burrata salad was perfect to share with either 1 or 2 other people. Our t-bone was cooked to perfection. Vegetables were simple yet effective. And finally, the rosti potato was simply the best starch I’ve ever had at a steakhouse. It is like a slice of truffled potato pie. Dessert was also excellent, I don’t recall the name of it but it had coffee ice cream.
The atmosphere is very unique. It’s on the darker side with exposed brick and an industrial feel. All in all, welcoming, comfortable, and you don’t feel like you’re on top of your fellow diners. There is also a very interesting cartoon piece of art featured on the wall toward the center of the restaurant that had my eye for a while. You’ll see when you go.
Now on to the service. I am used to dealing with very stoic, straight to the point waiters at most of the steakhouses I go to. The staff at Muu is the exact opposite. By the end of the meal, you will probably feel like you have made 3-4 new friends. They were all absolute beauties, so welcoming and so pleasant to engage with. I will always remember the top notch service we received here.
I hope to return one day. In the mean time, if I learn of any friends, family, or acquaintances who will be traveling to Porto, I will not allow them to skip out on Muu. It deserves all of its notoriety and exceeds expectations on every level.
