Nice small hotel, large clean rooms

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 7, 2017
Small hotel-only 3 floors. Rooms are clean and well furnished. 3rd floor rooms have south west facing balconies with side sea views. However they face on to a car park and are overlooked by a huge new hotel being built. Beds are very hard and have plastic mattress covers.
Breakfast is Ok but not inspiring.
Date of stay: November 2017
Room Tip: 3d floor rooms get sun until 6pm n Nov.

This hotel is in a great location, has spacious rooms and a lovely pool area which is hardly used. The balconys have a side view of the sea and get the sun mid afternoon and into the evening. Breakfast was included with lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cooked breakfast (although I didn't have any of the latter) and a vending machine for hot water, coffee, chocolate etc. it's close enough to some good restaurants of all varieties so you can have traditional Madeiran food as well as English choices. The lobby is spacious with beautiful and well thought out pieces of furniture. Oh and the wifi is terrific!!

Room tip: I would say all rooms are good but some of the balconies can be a bit wee

Well to me this was like a nicer travel lodge, clean and tidy, only thing was we stayed the night the fires broke out in funchal, and the smoke came through the air con unit which was not the hotel fault at all, was frightening and i even got up to check the hall way was not on fire. Good hotel to stay in if travelling by boat to porto santo in the morning. Will defo stay here again.

I was travelling alone. This small hotel is friendly, clean, quiet, comfortable and I will be booking another stay here later this year.
It may be disconcerting for some of you to see there is no big forecourt or fancy garden when you arrive - the hotel is on a small (steep) side-street. That said, I did not spend my time hanging around outside the hotel! My room was great, a sea view is available, but not from the first floor. If someone wants a sea view they should move to hotel closer to the sea... When you have been in Funchal for a while, you know what the sea is like! I spent little time at the hotel as I was keen to use it as a base for exploring the island. The Madeira Bright Star ticked all the boxes for me and I am looking forward to returning.

Room tip: First floor rooms do not have a sea view, having spoken to others in the hotel the rooms are all quiet.

Stayed for one night only, waiting for our reservation at the nearby Pestana to kick in.
Room was simple, clean and comfortable, but a sour smell of tobacco was included. Thankfully the balcony doors could be opened.......
Good location, friendly reception, rotten breakfast (coffee was awful!). Cosy balcony.
Fine for one night, but not more.

They say it to be 4 star hotel. Well, no, it is not. Breakfast is 3,5 stars, basicly room is 3 stars and bathroom is under 2 stars with boroken this and that, horrible smell, bad air-conditioning aso. Room itself is big but stupid with a long corridor. We happened to get the smallest possible balcony with space just enough for a tble and chairs - not so comfortable. But, yes, room has space enough.

Breakfast was ok, and specially, when we got eggs and bacon also. Service is kind and polite in general.

Worst point was the fact safety box costed extra, and it really was not told beforehand. Cost was not so huge, but felt not normal to pay.
