We were introduced by our landlord about St Maria and we're pleased by her suggestion. They were kind enough to place the four of us in a backyard garden giving us some privacy from the crowd. The waiting staff were friendly and explained the menu to us. The seafood risotto was richly supported with lots of fresh prawns mussels n clams n was good. The Portuguese beef steak comes with fried sliced potatoes in a wine vinegary sauce that was superbly flavored though the meat was a bit sinewy. The two other fish dish was also good, one comes with fried bananas n the other with shrimp wrapped with the fish meat. For the price and the food highly recommend for a family outing. Will go again.

My wife and I were trawling the streets of Funchal looking for a decent restaurant to have an evening meal when we were spotted by one of the 'street waiters' working for this restaurant.

He informed us that their restaurant had a secluded garden restaurant at the rear of the main building and that we must look at it and make up our own minds - we were so glad we said yes.

The garden restaurant was absolutely lovely with a great private atmosphere, and we throughly enjoyed not being in 'public eye' whilst eating.

The food and the service from the staff were brilliant. This is a must for couples who want to dine in a quiet & romantic environment.

A definite next time we are back in Funchal.

Surprising beautiful garden area to the rear. A real Tardis.
Willing, friendly and helpful staff. Good menu range.
Bottle of Caiado rose and beer. Stewed lamb and mashed potatoes, salmon and pesto risotto, pork cheeks with mash and veg, shrimp pizza. Coffee and baileys. Worth a visit.

I went here with my family and we had a very good meal overall. The service is very good as were the mojitos! Try the garliic prawns which were delicious as were the pork cheeks. Sushi also excellent which I hadn't expected. Worth a visit as also has a good ambience. There was a problem with my main course but as soon as I mentioned its they apologised and I had something else was delicious and well cooked.

Lovely restaurant, very pleasant staff too.

Had tuna and chilli crostini and an olive, prosciutto and garlic bread to share for starter. Absolutely delicious. The crostini wasn't really crostini as we expected but was lovely, and the chilli wasn't strong at all.

For main, my husband had a prawn risotto and was informed it came with a chilli paste/oil to add which pleased him as we were looking forward to some Portuguese heat. Sadly the chilli had little heat in it but he did enjoy the risotto.

I had a chicken meatball walnut spaghetti dish. Very rich and not much flavour at all. I added lots of black pepper but just didn't hit the spot.

So, starter was superb, mains were tasty but under seasoned really. We don't think this is fault of the restaurant, but more that the old town restaurants seem to cater for the masses and provide well cooked but quite plain food. We would definitely recommend this restaurant though. Next time I think I'd go for the sushi.
