We were looking for a non resort style hotel, away from the busy areas, but close enough to go into town whenever we wished.
Having looked at numerous hotels, we decided to try Quinta Jardins do Lago.
We booked bed and breakfast (we like to find local restaurants for dinner, however, we did eat in the hotel restaurant two nights and it was excellent).
The hotel is up a very steep hill. We walked down and up almost every day, but, you do need to be fit. It took us about 30 minutes. However, there is a day time hotel shuttle, for those who do not wish to walk, recommend you book it. We did not use a taxi ourselves, but understand it is approximately 8 Euros one way. There is also a bus, hotel reception can give you details.
Positives, where do we start ..........
Staff. All of the staff are friendly and helpful, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Reception staff were particularly helpful and certainly the best we have experienced.
Gardens. Wow, absolutely stunning gardens with lots of different places to sit or sunbathe either with other people around the pool or lower garden area, or quieter areas if you prefer. The gardeners do an amazing job.
Rooms. Our room was very spacious, tastefully furnished with a lovely balcony overlooking the superb gardens with everything you need. Most importantly, housekeeping were excellent. Nothing to much trouble and the room was spotless.
Breakfast. Wonderful buffet selection with an excellent choice of hot freshly cooked items to order. Service at breakfast was exceptional.
Public Areas. Tastefully decorated and furnished and clean.
Last, but not least , the star of the hotel, Colombo the tortoise. We loved to say hello to him every day.
Negative comments. None, we absolutely loved staying here.
