The Residence is absolutely the top-notch. From the first minute at the reception we were amazed - once again. This was our revisit after 17 years. The place have been taken very good care of. We had a one bed apartment with pool and sea view, one floor higher up than on our last visit. Thanks to this, we had the same cleaning lady Fatima also this time. Fatima is as sweetheart and the cleaning is immaculate. We really enjoyed the outdoor pool and the sun loungers, the indoor pool is lovely, the breakfast and dinner at the Atlantida were tasty but a bit repetitive, lunch at the Veranda was over expectations both to taste and how prompt it was served, the parking garage was easy to access by lift, the mini golf was fun. The air con worked really well and kept the apartment really cool despite temperatures daily up to 26-27 C.
Some small issues that could be considered: There were not enough movable (free standing) parasols by the main pool. The drinks at buffet dinner was pricey (compared with the Il Basilico), and to run out of some of the most popular drinks in the first hour at buffet was a bit unexpected in a 4* hotel. The music entertainment could be a bit more to the taste of younger and middle-aged, since there are two bars with live music this could be easily solved. The ball games (by adults) in the main pool were at times a bit too lively - not nice to be hit by a volleyball while resting on a sun lounger.
To sum the "top three" with the Residence:
1. the beds were absolutely the most comfortable we've had in a hotel and the linen were of very high quality, crisp and white
2. the staff at the reception in the Residence is very, very friendly and they offer truly first class customer service
3. the garden & pool areas are beautiful and pleasant
Will we stay at the Residence next time we will visit Madeira. Most definitely, yes.
