Every aspect of our stay at The Residence was outstanding. Our apartment was perfectly positioned, of excellent standard, wonderfully cleaned. The restaurants excellent and the live music an additional bonus and a great way to finish the day. Atruly great stay.
Just back from 11 nights at this property,our first visit to Madeira.Room size excellent,two showers great.Hotel very clean and well maintained,grounds lovely.Food pretty good,a bit samey but always something to choose.Staff all very good,especially Portofino bar staff.Plenty of sunbeds but if you want to sit poolside get up early,plenty to go around though.Only slight downside,bars shut very early for a hotel and are a bit pricey.All in all,highly recommend hotel if visiting Madeira.
We stayed at The Residence hotel, part of the Portobay complex, next to Eden Mar. We were upgraded at check in without being told and it was a nice surprise. The apartment we received was very big, think of a bigger apartment with a "small" hotel room included which had its own bathroom.
Everything was very clean and, even though we did not use much of, the kitchenette was equipped with everything necessary for cooking.
Beds were comfortable and in good shape even though some of the furniture pieces were showing their age.
There were 5 swimming pools available, some indoor (one which allowed for swimming outdoors as well), one of them heated and two were suitable for little children. A gym, indoor and outdoor play areas for kids, as well as a hobby room were all available for free access.
A SPA is available, we only went there for a massage that was nice.
People are extremely helpful and nice, we really felt really good.
On top of everything the included breakfast buffet was very generous, even with sparkling wine available, and one could eat indoors or outdoors on the terrace.
We would come back and choose the same hotel without hesitation. Funchal downtown is within walking distance, although maybe this is not an option for everyone a quick taxi ride is also possible. Nevertheless, location is also very good.
My criticism. The breakfast bacon and sausage was not to our standard. (Could be that English is just different).
Poolside service would be appreciated. We also prefer the white plastic sunbeds which are more comfortable and look so much nicer to us.
Holiday experience you wont forget in a hurry. When arriving the booking in was very professional. We were given an upgrade from a Junior Suite to a Garden Studio which sleeps 4, this is the first time we have ever been given an upgrade. The hotel is one of the cleanest I have seen for a long time. It is located on the edge of town which my wife and I liked, all restaurants and shops are within a short walking distance. Staff are so friendly and nothing is too much to ask for. The question is to ask would I go back again and the answer would be "YES".
