A beautiful, clean hotel with excellent facilities and a fantastic location. The views from balconies are amazing.
Loved the fact that there was no music at the pool. The activities and the gym are brilliant.
We were half board, the food was of high quality and there was always something to eat. The only negative is the Varanda pool bar, which is expensive and the menu is rather poor. There are cafes and restaurants just outside the hotel, would recommend those instead.
Would love to go back to Porto Mare.

Just got back from a week in Funchal at the Porto Mare, it’s a beautiful hotel, very clean and lovely staff. 4 pools to choose from which were really well looked after. We didn’t go to the outdoor ones as they were very busy, but used the indoor ones. Breakfast was great with lots of choice and they’ll cook fresh omelettes for you if you wish. Rooms were big with comfy beds and the view was stunning! There were plenty of restaurants wet close by and around a 15 minute walk to the Forum shopping centre. A bus ride into Funchal was around 5 euros for 3 of us and took around 15 mins. Only thing I would say is if you’re not doing all inclusive don’t eat or drink in the hotel as it’s very expensive! We will definitely be going back there though.

The Porto Mare hotel is a fabulous family hotel in an excellent location for bus-hoping around Funchal, exploring Madeira and generally just relaxing and recuperating. The food was excellent across the whole hotel complex, the pools and facilities were equally excellent (and clean) - its great having some indoor pools to cool off in out of the summer sun. Air con in the rooms always worked. Beds were very comfortable. Overall an excellent place from which to enjoy and explore Madeira. Recommended.

Great location near the Lido, plenty of restaurants nearby and convenient Pingo supermarket. Comfortable accommodation, love that there are a few pools and plenty of sunbeds. Gardens make this place so tranquil and lovely for relaxing. Recommended to stay for families.

We have had a fantastic week at Porto Mare. It was our first visit and we were a family of 3. Our room was very clean and spacious - I think it had recently been refurbished as it looked different to the website (nice new flooring, curtains and bedding). Our room was 2515 on the top floor and was so quiet. The view was beautiful. We paid extra for a sea view, but I honestly think any room would have a lovely view and at least a partial sea view anyway.
We were bed and breakfast - breakfast was great and service in all restaurants/bars was superb. We also bought food vouchers for 3 nights and the food was great - we could have eaten at the hotel more, but wanted to try other venues too. Mau Feitio and Papa Manuel on the lido front were both good.
Drinks at the hotel were a little on the expensive side we felt, but there was a good range on offer.
Evening entertainment was a little repetitive - the performers were talented, but we felt the entertainment catered mostly for older guests and it lacked variety.
Overall, we loved Porto Mare and would definitely return in the future.
