We visited for our Ruby anniversary and the whole experience was an absolute delight.we had a full sea view room and it was lovely to sit on the balcony watching cruise ships coming into port. The room was clean and well appointed. We stayed bed and breakfast as the location of the hotel is perfect for choosing from a plethora of restaurants within a stones throw. Breakfast was lovely with plenty for a vegetarian to choose from. The waiters were pleasant and helpful. The hotel is on the edge of the old town with quaint cobbled streets and beautiful pictures painted in the doorways. I loved that we could walk right out to the seafront without having to plod up and down hills. We enjoyed the cocktail happy hour on a couple of occasions and it was so relaxing to pass some time relaxing in the roof top hot tub with its fabulous view. On our Ruby anniversary we returned to our room to find an ice bucket of sparkling wine and pretty flowers in our room which the hotel had left to help us celebrate.
We had a late flight on leaving and the hotel took our cases into storage and also gave us lockers in the sauna so we could go out and about then return to shower and change before getting our cases back. We loved everything about the hotel and would not hesitate to return here

This wasn’t our first time to Madeira, but it was our first time to this hotel. The hotel is situated in the heart of the old town and is right near a pebble beach. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are excellent and friendly. We stayed bed and breakfast, the breakfast was very good.

My only gripe was our room, although I didn’t pay for a sea view room, so I can’t complain too much. But our room was dark as it was overlooking a huge tree/park area. As previous reviews have mentioned, undesirable activity takes place in the park right at the side of the hotel, directly under our balcony - which is not something that I want to watch whilst on holiday. I would return to this hotel, but I would ask for a sea view room.

Porto Santa Maria Hotel, is a lovely peaceful hotel in the heart of the old town in Funchal. The hotel is adult only, which is a bonus for those of us who like peace and quiet.
We've stopped there many times before and never been disappointed. Except when having to leave! The staff are very helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning.
