Beautiful hotel and grounds, fabulous staff

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 22, 2024
WOW!
Well where to start. This is a stunning hotel in beautiful grounds. We chose a garden room as they had sun loungers on the patios. The room was clean and tidy and you are able to request change of bed sheets by leaving a card on the bed.
We messaged the hotel before our stay asking if irons and ironing boards are in the rooms, they are not but they provided us them for our stay.
Every single member of staff is welcoming and polite.
Breakfast had a choice of continental and a menu from the kitchen including items such as porridge, full breakfast and salmon.
We ate in the Bistro a few times at lunch and once on the evening which is definitely worth trying. The Dining Room is also worth booking and if we had realised how amazing it was we would have booked in there more than twice.
If we return to Madeira the only hotel we would book would be Quinta da Casa Branca.
Thank you to all staff at the hotel for a wonderful holiday.

We stayed in the QdCB for one week in June and really enjoyed our time here. We liked the stylish design of the hotel with its lovely and well maintained gardens. Although the road outside the hotel could be busy at certain times of the day, we were not aware of road noise in the hotel grounds.

Our ground floor room in the garden block was spacious and had two reclining beds on the patio facing the garden. The beds in the room are very comfortable. The only minor criticism is that the bath/shower combination is very narrow and possibly in need of updating.

Breakfast (either on the terrace or inside) was a highlight. Lots of fresh fruit, cakes and pastries, breads, cheeses and meats to choose from, plus hot food that could be ordered. The breakfast team were very helpful and friendly. It was lovely to sit outside looking over the grounds to the hills above Funchal.

We made use of the small gym, sauna and jacuzzi which were empty most of the time we were there.

Hotel staff are excellent and very helpful. From the reception team to those who maintained the rooms and gardens everyone did a great job.

The hotel is on the west side of Funchal and uphill from the waterfront. We walked into Funchal several times and also ran down to the waterfront and along the pedestrianised areas. The hills make for a good workout.

We would happily return for another stay…

This is our third visit to the beautiful Casa Branca. Just returned from staying here for three weeks. Everything was perfect. All the staff were wonderful, there wasn't one that wasn't helpful or welcoming.
The housekeeper that looked after our room made sure that it was sparkling every day. it made a big difference walking into a well cleaned and cared for room, Thank you. TBH she was amazing and so were all the other staff as well. The room was cleaned and fresh towels replaced morning and evening.
We stayed in a garden room and we made the right choice for us. My partner doesn't like the sun or should I say the sun and him do not mix. This meant that I could go out in the sun on the lounger whilst he stayed on the terrace in the shade. Two loungers are allocated to each of the garden rooms.
The pools are well cared for with plenty of sun beds, parasols and pool towels provided. On a number of occasions we were the only ones using the pool facilities. Bar service is available at the pools.
The gardens are magnificent a pleasure to stroll around. A fitting testament to the gardeners.
We ate in for dinner on two occasions, food was delicious. Breakfasts are good and hot breakfast items are made to order.
We found the beds, pillows and bedding really good and slept really well.
We don't have one concern about the beautiful Casa Branca and therefore we have already booked for next year and cannot wait.
Thanks to all the staff for making our holiday perfect.

We came here for 10 nights to celebrate my husbands 60th and it couldn't have been more perfect!

We loved this hotel, what a wonderful, tranquil place in the centre of Funchal.

The gardens are a delight and a real haven for birds and butterflies, the gardeners do a wonderful job and you feel you can breathe in this hotel.

The hotel itself is delightful, with first class staff, and food and two delightful pools.

We dined half board every night in the Manor House, and what a treat it was. The food was amazing and some reasonably priced wines which is not often the case in such establishments.

Breakfast on the outside terrace is lovely, with a buffet of pretty much all you can think of, as well a cooked options, such as eggs benedict, omelette, pancakes etc.

They do a lovely assortment of lunch options too!

We opted for a premium room and so glad we did, room was huge, with a large bathroom and a daybed and chair on the balcony, if you can afford the splurge, then consider one of these.

Yes, in fairness the rooms are a tad dated, but that didn't detract for us as it was impeccably clean and we both said that should we visit Madeira again this would be our first choice of hotel, no question.

Also a big thank you to the staff for making our holiday so special and working so hard to make this hotel so unique 😊

Room tip: Dine half board, its amazing

I am not writing this for the hotel but for other travellers considering staying at Quinta da Casa Branca.

The hotel amidst large gardens is exceptional. It is just stone throw from the tourist area of Funchal. In this review I am only pointing out things that should not exist in a five star hotel or should be executed differently:

1. This is a small hotel and breakfast buffet is very limited for a 5-star place. Warm items are made-to-order. Breakfast restaurant is rather small and can get crammed
2. Rooms at the garden wing are on the small side and soon in need for a thorough renovation. There are water leakages in the corridor walls and in the ceilings.
3. Too few power sockets - non around the bed
4. Shower in the bathtub - very narrow and difficult to get in and out
5. Air conditioning is very loud at full speed. Just loud noice with no added effect.
6. Beds need replacing. The mattresses are wrapped with the cheapest available plastic covers (pee protectors). Also the polyester pillows and blankets are wrapped in this cling film making the bed extremely sweaty. Cherry on the top: bed linen are of polyester blend
7. Outdoor pools are fairly cold even-though heated
8. When the hotel is full one may not find a parking place

Some positive and exceptional features worth 5 stars:

1. The hidden library in the newest building at the back of the property
2. Also in the same building but in the basement: jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym and relax room

All other things (including the exceptionally well kept gardens) are fine and up the 3,5 - 4 star standard.

Dear Rantati7,

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on your recent stay at Quinta da Casa Branca. We value all guest comments as they help us continually improve our services.

We are pleased to hear that you found our large gardens, the hidden library, and the wellness facilities in the newest building to be exceptional and worthy of a 5-star rating. These features are indeed some of the highlights of our property, designed to provide our guests with a unique and relaxing experience.

Regarding the areas you mentioned for improvement:

1. Breakfast Buffet: As a smaller boutique hotel, we aim to provide a personalized and high-quality breakfast experience. While the buffet selection might be more limited compared to larger hotels, our warm items are made-to-order to ensure freshness and quality.
2. Room Size and Renovation: We appreciate your comments about the garden wing rooms and are currently planning a renovation to address these concerns.
3. Power Sockets: We acknowledge the need for more conveniently placed power sockets and are working on enhancing this aspect for our guests' convenience.
4. Shower in Bathtub: Your feedback on the shower setup is noted. We understand the importance of accessibility and will consider this in our future renovations.
5. Air Conditioning: the unit in your room has just been installed and I have confirmed that it operates efficiently and quietly.
6. Beds and Linens: We are committed to providing comfortable sleeping arrangements. Our linens are supplied by Sampedro, a world leader in home textile production, known for their high standards. Our linens are made of pure cotton percale, consisting of 450 threads, ensuring top quality. If you wish, we can provide you with the technical information for further details.
7. Outdoor Pools: Our pools are heated, but we will re-evaluate the temperature settings to enhance guest comfort.
8. Parking: the size of our parking area is limited as we prioritize maintaining the extensive and beautiful gardens over expanding concrete spaces. We understand that parking can be a challenge during peak occupancy.

We are grateful for your positive remarks about our gardens and other facilities, and we hope to address the areas of concern promptly.
We aim to provide an outstanding experience for all our guests, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us achieve this.

We hope to welcome you back to Quinta da Casa Branca in the future and provide you with an improved experience.

Beautiful garden, well-kept rooms and attentive, courteous staff. Central yet quiet location, within walking distance of the harbor and many recommended restaurants; by car for day trips to all places on the island – Better than Reid´s, what more could you want? We will be back.
