The hotel location and food were amazing 👏. Plenty of food choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The views from the balcony its amazing. Staff was very friendly and helpful . Loved the pool area and Turkish baths. Really enjoyed our stay at Pestana.

Its a mixed bag;
a. Positives - cleanliness, location by the sea and all rooms with a sea view - was amazing to look out over the sea every day, main staff are friendly and very helpful, handy transfers into funchal and easy to walk along the prom. Beautiful island
b. Negatives
1. Food - for breakfast and snacks it is fine, however for evening meals it is very poor. Lots of reheated and recycled food and for a vegetarian / non fish eater it was not good at all. Even the meat eaters in our family found it not great. The kids were less than inspired and we ate out on several occasions - however I did kind of expect it to not be amazing but it was below par.
2. Evening entertainment - it is loud and goes on a long time. As there is no real area for it, its literally right in the centre of the bar / restaurant area, so you cant really get away from the noise and with kids it was a lot so dont expect an early night or quiet relaxing time on your balcony
3. FRAM? Entertainment team - seem to be connected to FRAM (which I think maybe a french travel company?) however, they are pretty rude and obnoxious and dont make anyone feel welcome unless you are from there and they completely dominate the reception / lounge area. There is no getting away from their noisy antics during evening meal service
4. Hotel facilities - need some investment and upgrading

Accommodation, pool/Sauna, variety and quality of food very good.
Some people of the room service and of clearing the tables in the restaurant seem not to be happy doing their job. But most of the staff members are very, very friendly: especially CARLA (the guest service manager), Isabel, Sarah, Beatrice and Mariana at the reception; Irene, Noemia, Manuela, Sandra and Duarte at the restaurant.
Even individual requests were met .

All good except for the lack of no smoking areas outside. As a non smoker I felt unable to sit at the outside tables and eat my food or enjoy my food for fear of people smoking next to me. Not nice or polite when you are eating.
My suggestion that there should be designated outdoor areas where non smokers could sit and enjoy a smoke free environment. The same goes for sunbeds have a designated area for non smokers. That way everyone gets to enjoy the outside space.

I recently stayed at the Seaside Retreat, a four-star all-inclusive hotel, and had a wonderful experience. Situated right by the ocean, the hotel offers breathtaking views and easy access to the beach, making it an ideal location for a relaxing getaway.
The rooms were spacious and elegantly decorated, featuring modern amenities and a comfortable bed. The balcony in each room provided a perfect spot to enjoy the stunning sea view. Housekeeping was attentive, ensuring that the room was always clean and well-stocked.
Dining at the Pestana Bay was a highlight of the stay. The all-inclusive package included access to several on-site restaurants, each offering a diverse menu of delicious dishes. From fresh seafood at the beachfront grill to gourmet international cuisine at the main restaurant, the food was consistently excellent. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, with its wide selection of pastries, fruits, and hot dishes, was particularly impressive.
The hotel’s amenities were also top-notch. The infinity pool overlooking the ocean was a favorite spot for relaxation, and the well-equipped fitness center allowed for a good workout. Additionally, the spa services were superb, providing a range of treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated.
