We booked to stay here as we had arranged our flights separately and we were looking for accommodation in the Lido area of Funchal for 5 of us. Having stayed before we knew what we were after and so chose to book in this way. We stayed for 10 days. The apartment was privately owned and the agreement was made and paid for in advance. When we arrived at the airport we were met by a British man who was our contact should we need anything during our stay. He had organised our private transfer and off we went to the apartment. Very organised and not at all stressful- very important when taking a holiday I think! It was located a little further out that we were expecting but this didn't pose too much of a problem as we were renting a car. It is definitely not in walking distance of the Lido area restaurants so a taxi would be needed if you want to enjoy a drink or are not renting a car. The lady on arrival was friendly and helpful and was there nearly all the time. Although this is no longer a managed hotel there is always a staff member on reception from the adjacent pestana hotel. Some apartments are used as homes for local residents and others are purely for holiday rentals. Our room was on the second floor and was very generous in size. Located on the seafront it had excellent views and we often enjoyed the sound of the ocean sitting on the balcony. The apartment included 2 sofas, dining table, breakfast bar, a TV with many channels and free wifi. Our bedroom had an ensuite which was larger than the separate bathroom and there was a small bedroom attached to ours with bunk beds- perfect for young families! Our bedroom was huge with a king size bed (probably bigger), built in wardrobes with lots of hangers and 3 sets of drawers. The twin bedroom also had built in wardrobes. Kitchen was fully equipped with pots, pans, plates etc and utensils. Iron and board available and lots of fans to use. The balcony was large enough for 2 sun loungers and a table with 6 chairs! Lots of brochures for activities and contact numbers if we wanted to book. A few books of handwritten reviews from previous guests of this apartment but nothing dated after 2012 which I found odd. Unfortunately after we had loaded the fridge and cupboards with food we discovered a rife problem with ants! The lady on reception said she couldn't do anything and to speak to the liaison contact. The fridge was also very poor at chilling items, drinks were barely cool and cheese went soft! The towels provided in the bathrooms were threadbare and smelled of damp. However all other aspects were good. The large pool area was okay but in the shallow end on the steps there was a missing tile with very sharp edges which I was concerned about my 4 year old cutting her foot on. There was a large sign above the outside pool bar area but it was not in use while we were there which was a shame but there was instead a vending machine available on reception. This may have been because of the time of year we visited, perhaps this opens when even warmer in June? Large parking area out front meant we always had a place to park our car which was handy. I personally wouldn't stay here again mainly due to the location being further away than we had realised but this was our mistake not theirs. It is actually in Praia Formosa not Lido, Funchal. If you are looking for a quiet location with one or two bars and snack places with lots of opportunity to go on scenic, relaxing walks then this is the place for you.
