Great location. In the heart of the city, clean, well designed, friendly and helpful staff. Modern and efficiently designed rooms. Excellent breakfast on top floor with nice view. Buses cannot get up to this location as the street is cobblestone and very narrow.

Dear DS
Thank you for your nice review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We would like to advise that buses do get up to our location through the main road (São Pedro de Alcantara).

This year started back home in Lisbon, Portugal, and almost out of nowhere came the chance to try one of the new hotels in town – The Lumiares Hotel & Spa. Located in one of the historic buildings on the nightlife district of Bairro Alto, I still remember to see the requalification process going on from when was living there and that added to the curiosity of seeing the final result.

Now finished in all marble and gold, the original building was the Palacete dos Lumiares, a mansion home for the noble Lumiares family in the capital when the monarchy still ruled the country. Open last July, the brand new five-star boutique hotel offers something slightly different from what most hotels with the same star-rating do in Lisbon – large and spacious luxury apartments. From the cozier one-bedroom flats to soundproof open space duplexes and penthouses overlooking the Elevador da Glória and São Pedro de Alcântara lookout.

So this was my destination for the first stay of the year, an 18th-century building with a dramatic touch of black, white and gold throughout the hotel. A several year project led by interior architect company Metro Urbe, not only with the focus of developing a comfortable place to stay with high-end SMEG appliances, premium finishing, and special care to maintain a quiet atmosphere in a party district with triple-layered glass.

But also a great concern on showcasing the Portuguese soul of the hotel to all the guests with custom-made traditional tapestry from Alentejo reflecting the picturesque colors of the neighborhood, furniture designed and manufactured in Porto, limited edition artworks printed in Lisbon, Vista Alegre tableware and Oprah-endorsed toiletries by Claus Porto.

Apart from the accommodations, the hotel also offers a casual restaurant, coffee shop, fine dining restaurant with a charming rooftop overlooking the historical district (A promising hangout spot for next Summer) and a fantastic SPA where I got to have the massage I was postponing for months.

This place is another one of my recommendations if you are in town. Even if not staying at the hotel, just a drink on the rooftop makes the visit worth it.

Room Tip: Go for the duplexes or one of the rooms overlooking the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

The hotel is very centrally located with some is the best bars and restaurants right around the corner. The hotel itself is very modern and nicely decorated. The only down side is that the staff at times is a bit slow and confused.

I had the most amazing stay at The Lumiares. The location is perfect- in Bairro Alto, a stone's throw away from Central Chiado and the funicular.
The hotel itself is stunning! The furnishings and the interior is lovely and the rooms themselves are heavenly. They are suites and come with a fully equipped kitchen. From the crockery to the bedspreads, one can tell there is alot of thought that went into designing this as the most luxurious place.
I would highly recommend this to anyone and plan on returning again!
