We stumbled across Taverna Ti Joao completely by accident and what an absolute delight it turned out to be.Simple , uncomplicated menu, starters of a mixed meat and cheeseboard with local breads was beautifully presented and an explosion of different flavours to try.
The steaks are absolutely sublime. We like ours rare and we went for the house special sauce which my husband said was out of this world, and I had the more simple Olive oil and fresh Garlic, stunning. Despite being rare, we cut them with a butter knife, they were that tender, extremely unusual in Portugal we have found.
We loved it so much, we went back with friends again the following week and had exactly the same, also making 2 new converts in the process.
Seriously, I would expect this level of quality in a Michelin starred restaurant, not a small intimate family run restaurant in a side street in Figueira. Da Foz.
An even greater surprise was the price, starters, main and a couple of beers for just over 40 Euro...I would have paid twice that much.
The most highly recommended little gem in Figueira and the service and friendliness of the owner is outstanding. Do not miss this local treat, you will not be disappointed. If I could give this place a higher rating than excellent, I certainly would!
Possibly a little difficult to access with a wheelchair, although we did manage to get a child's buggy in there on our second visit.
