We chanced upon this restaurant for lunch after had visited the botanical gardens and the University next door. We had decided to visit the Museum de Machado de Castro and view the Roman ruins found during excavations of the area. The museum is worth the price of admission as is the visit to the University and the associated palace and Library.
Much to our surprise there was restaurant inside the museum that was crowded with locals and serving buffet lunch with all the trimming including glass of excellent wine for 9 Euros a person. The buffet was extensive with a great collection of seafood salads, octopus, tuna, two soups including the ever wonderful pumpkin veggie soup and a number of main courses including the ever present cod, along with beef, lamb and vegetarian selections.
Every dish was excellent and the wait staff was available to answer questions and help if they ran out of any item. The view of the wide windows, allows you to look across the river and enjoy a relaxing lunch while sipping wine in this ancient city. The university students in their black capes adds to the ambiance and the bargain price is just icing on the cake.
