We decided to go to lunch at the last moment (lunchtime ends at 15:00) without reservation. The waitress seemed to be hands full since there were lots of customers still waiting their food but she waved us in. We ate grilled sardines and steak (of veal) and shared half bottle of red wine and sparkling water. The food was delicious and the place is very local and authentic although I think it can be full of tourists sometimes because of good reviews here in Tripadvisor and on travel books. Don't expect to get much service in English, for us it was a good chance to practice our Portuguese.

We were recommended to come to Ze Neto. Service was efficient but no fun. Small Portugese restaurant.
Food, we thought was very average, perhaps we were unlucky as others had dishes that looked better. We are judging based on our experience and wouldn't come here again.

(Incidentally we found in general in Portugal that the Portuguese Restaurants were empty-ish while the Italian restaurants were packed.)

If you visit Coimbra an don't enjoy a meal at Zé Neto you cannot claim you visited the town. This a classic (probably THE classic). Don't be fooled by negative people. If you visit a country try to learn at least their basic vocabulary and you'll get sparkling water....

We had dinner in the Ze Neto restaurant.

We had some difficulties to order in English or Spanish, so that we became still water although we had ordered sparkling water. The wine we did chose from the menu wasn’t available anymore. We couldn’t even order a simple coffee with milk, because they had run off of milk.

We had the squid in butter sauce, but it came with no sauce at all.
The chanfana (stew of goat meat in red wine sauce) was probably the only thing that was really good and the reason Ze Neto got two stars from us.
We asked for a port wine, but we couldn’t choose which one we preferred (although they had more than one available).

The dining room could use a throughout cleaning. We happened to see into the fridge, and it was full of icing!!!

We don’t recommend this restaurant.
