We went to Coimbra to meet up with some people who live there and when it came time for lunch, they said this was their favorite place. We waited, but that's usually a good sign. Once inside we were transported to another place and time. Very small, maybe 16 seats. There aren't chairs but stools. But oh, the food. All locally prepared dishes that are mouthwatering. It's a carnivore's paradise. The four of us shared a goat stew, grilled octopus, pork and beans rice stew, and grilled pork. We ate, sopped up and finished every morsel. The wine is made by the owner and the chocolate mousse was soooo good. In the tourist season there will be a line out the door, so we feel very lucky to have enjoyed it. You get a true sense of Portuguese local food.

When you go to the second highest rated restaurant in Coimbra, you get your expectations up pretty high and this can be the undoing of a good meal. Well not in this case. The food is superb. The menu was in Portugese but the owner explained the different items and gave us great input. The result was two very happy customers. We were offered house white and red wine, the owner assured us we would like it, well what can I say, superb. Undoubtedly one of the finest meals we have had the fotune of eating, at an incredibly reasonable price.One of those meals we will be thinking back on for many years to come. Book your ticket.

Ok, I'm not known for going over the top on reviews but I can't fault this place.
It is small so get there early and wait, I suspect drop ins are usually disappointed as the restaurant itself is small - I think I counted 7 takes. But this allows for superb food, quick service and attention. The price was very low compared to city centre prices the portion size large and incredibly tasty. To me it seems as close to authentic without knocking on a house for and having it made. Utterly superb and a fantastic little tip from a friend.
