If in Faro, Portugal put this museum on your "to see" list. Well worth the price of admission. Traces the history of the city which was called Ossanoba founded 2500 years ago in the Roman province of Lusitania. The mosaic of the god Oceanus built in Faro is on display. The building is another reason to visit, beautiful Moorish architecture. The exhibit of various tile work is very well done. There is also an exhibit of the typical Muslim house in Faro during the Moorish occupation.
This is one of the best city museums in Europe that my wife and I have visited. It's very easy to find and it is close to the city center.

Best collection of old paintings and local history, the house itself is worth a visit -and you will see the roman and arabic influences on this region

Loved the building, because it is such an atmospheric and unusual place--intact and clearly once a religious institution, it has a pleasant and contemplative air which enhances the exhibits when you get around to looking at them. Some interesting modern paintings, and some badly worn/faded/needing restoration, much older ones. Then bim bam boom a great Roman mosaic lifted and resited in one of the rooms! That's the fifth star. Go and see it, worth the entrance easily.

Nice museum with a lot of local history. Good setting in historical building. Central location close to other attractions

It was a nice Sunday afternoon to have a look inside, was free of entry. Not many people, was very relaxing. Bring your own water. We did go at the end of October. Hope this helps.

Wandered in while we were exploring the Old Town. Lovely old building, set up nicely for viewing (and resting, as needed). We did take advantage of the seniors' rate. Quite enjoyed the exhibits, though some of the more modern art work was a little odd. Good information on the Moorish past.
