This is the best family resort I have ever been to. Bold statement, yes, but these are the reasons why.

As a busy couple we wanted to have the opportunity spend time with the kids but also have a bit of quiet time on our own. This place offered everything. Normally we would find things to do outside of the hotel to stimulate our energetic children. We didn't have to do that here as there was so much to do. We didn't leave the hotel for the whole week except to go to the beach.

The water slides are amazing, the 7 odd pools give plenty of choice of where to hang out. The pool bar looked after by Yolande was excellent, and everything with a very friendly smile. The restaurant served a really good mix of healthy things and food that both kids and adults really like. AND it was not repetitive so every day there were different themes.

Entertainment in the evening was fun including the kids disco, the quiz night, magic show, authentic portuguese music etc.

The rooms were spacious and kept very clean, and we had 2 rooms adjoining, one for the kids and one for us. Perfect.

The big plus for us was the Kids Club. Our children couldn't get enough of it and asked to go everyday. For a couple of hours each morning and afternoon as well as the evening disco we had time to relax and read a book. The only thing is we have now had to find the Lollo and Bernie tune on Youtube so they can carry on dancing to it at home. So I would like to thank the amazing kids club team who were Livia (we love you Livia), Will, Natalie, Lina, Sofia, Mirlande, Ruben and anyone I missed off here.

Thank you Alfagar for such an excellent experience. We can't wait to come back again.

Just back from an excellent two weeks self catering at Alto Da Colina

The hotel as many others have said is spotless throughout, everything was well maintained and the rooms cleaned 6 days a week (if you wanted them to)

As we were self catering we ate from the snack bar quite a lot, the food was OK but became a bit repetitive if you ate there a lot, it would be good If they could vary the menu a little or had a few breakfast or evening options just to change it up a bit.

The big plus for us at the hotel was no ridiculous sunbed wars, every day if you went down by about 0930 and sometimes later youd get a sunbed, and if you werent bothered about being at the quieter lower pool you could literally get one all day, the lower pool was good for a quiet day but we preferred the main pool just for the entertainment and atmosphere.

The pools themselves were ‘refreshing’ once you were in it was OK but just a bit too cold for getting in but very clean and spacious.

The entertainment team work really really hard all day long and really try to include everyone, a lot of the activity was aimed at younger families but we enjoyed the things we got involved in, they need more support on the FRI/SAT nights down at the venue which are great nights but not always well attended, I think a lot of people choose to stay at the tavern bar. Special mention to Will and Blanca and the others who all work so hard.
Bar staff at the Tavern were also great.

Out and about we used Uber which is so easy in the algarve, no need to carry cash and never had to wait more than ten minutes.
Albufeira was about EUR8 each way, and if you didn’t fancy the walk back from the Intermarche supermarket with bags it was EUR3
We ate at the RM restaurant, out of the complex and right walk about ten minutes, the steak was excellent, and we also ate at portobello italian in the same location which does excellent pizzas.
If you’re looking for a waterpark I would recommend aquashow if you are looking for a great day out with some really big slides but also plenty for younger ones, queues werent bad at all, we managed several rides on everything, the roller coaster and the two big slides are amazing!

Room Tip: I'd go for a high floor and we weren't overlooking the pool which was quieter in the evening

We’ve just got back from a two week holiday at the Alto da Colina in Albufeira and have had such a great holiday. This is the first review I’ve written as usually I’ve not felt compelled to leave a rating or comment but I felt the need to do so after this holiday.

The hotel and accomodation are absolutely immaculate, it’s one of the cleanest and best resorts we have been too. We had a standard, sea view room which was really spacious and well equipped with great views over the pool and included maid service 5 or 6 days a week. Nothing is too much effort for the staff, they were all so friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome.

The food in the restaurant was really nice and varies each day but also has staples such as salads, soup, cheese and biscuits etc..

Our five year old son loved the kids club and mini disco, he literally couldn’t get enough of the entetainedtment team who were just awesome. Special mention to Will, Lucia, Blanca, Olivia and Natalie for making the whole two weeks so much fun and a holiday he will remember for many years to come.

The events for adults were also really varied from daybreak yoga to aqua aerobics, waterpolo if you fancied getting involved but there was really no pressure to do so.

We were also really impressed that we could use the facilities at the other Alfagar resorts including the pools, gym, spa and restaurants with just a bit of notice if we wanted to book there to eat somewhere different.

All in all a great two week stay. Thanks

I stayed here for the last year of it being a first choice holiday village. It was a beautiful hotel. The rooms were clean and impeccably kept. I had seen a few reviews complaining the pools were cold, but although they were not bath like, they were by no means cold at all, and were very comfortable for swimming. The food was exquisite and so plentiful. I hope this remains now its no longer all inclusive. Excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building if you can.

We stayed in block two in the complex and it was lovely and clean, small shop was on the ground floor of our block, a bit pricey (especially for inflatables at 16-20euro a pop) but theres a bigger shop and a chemist about 100yards down the road with a fresh bakery id recommend that one better. its a bit far out from the oldtown or the strip (6euro each way). The apartments themselves are a great size and very well equipped, and the cleaners do a great job, every day our apartment was spotless. The staff on the front desk were lovely, nothing was a bother to them.
The pools were very cold, especially for the children but theres very little that can be done about that, the slide pool was a massive hit for my two boys. The girls working in the pool café were probably my only complaint, they were beyond slow, and I don't mean the food or anything as it was very tasty (highly overpriced at 8euro for a hot dog and chips) but tasty none the less, the girls were so slow, it took them forever to serve one customer so you were constantly queuing, they really need to get more capable staff down there because its puts people off going near it because they are just so slow. All in all we enjoyed our holiday and would return in the future if we ever decide to go back to Portugal.
