we were taking a guided tour-did not enter the castle
explained some of the history of the castle-how it originally was a wooded structure that could easily burn down-and then was replaced by what we now see

Compared to a few years ago, there is much more to see. The view from the top is very nice, you can really get an impression of the city, and now you can also take a walk on the walls which is really nice. One of the nicer places in town, giving a good insight of what life in a medieval castle must have been.

I suppose this is something with castles. They were designed as defensive fortifications and not for comfort. On a cold first day of spring this was not a great visit. Perhaps I have seen too many castles. Also I am never excited by medieval instruments of torture and regard them as a perpetuation of ancient evil that is best forgotten in another evil modern world.

Visit whilst away for a long weekend in gent, was so pleased we went, really good value ( 10 euros) and it was really informative, one of the best small castles I've visited, certainly worth a visit

The Exterior Structure & Location Are Impressive,Its An Interesting Hour Or So Walking Around The Rooms & The Views From The Towers Are Worth The Climb Up The Stairs. However Very Few Artefacts On Show & Most Rooms Appear To Be Associated With Torture.
