Out for a weekend in Tongeren and stayed two nights at Hotel Caelus VII. Too bad it was only for a weekend because we could have stayed a lot longer. Location is perfect and the hotel is really super! The hotel is nicely decorated in a warm welcoming style; the rooms are spacious and very nice. Corne, the owner prepares the breakfast himself and he caters to all needs; excellent choices and abundant. Parking is not provided but very close in a closed parking and not very expensive. When in Tongeren, stay at Hotel Caelus VII!

When we booked the room, the proprietor - who also is the receptionist, and does the breakfast room too, asking us whether and how we like our eggs, with or without bacon - asked us for our approximate time of arrival, so he could be there to greet us, since reception isn’t manned 24/7, unless guests were arriving later he would leave for home at 5 pm.
Regular customers -usually sales people - are given the digital entrance code and find an envelope at the reception desk with their keys.
He also told us where to park, at the Q Park Center parking garage about 100 m away, not expensive at €11,- per day.
When we arrived, he took his time telling us everything about what to visit, so charming, friendly and helpful. Room are great: lots of space, not the usual cramped 20 square meters, , good beds, cable tv with lots of foreign channels, shower and toilet very clean, airconditioned, free Wifi. As a nice touch their logo on the toilet flushing button, the water bottles, even the pots containing the plants in the breakfast room.
No elevator, only a luggage lift, so we had asked for a room on the ground floor.
Breakfast for €16,50 each was quite OK, many kinds of bread, cooked and raw ham, smoked salmon, fresh fruit, yogurt, always kept well stocked.
The hotel is centrally located, your can visit all sites on foot. Lots of restaurants on the adjacent big marketplace.
This man, Corné Meertens, used to own the restaurant in the next building, and had together with his brother Laurent bought this former hatter’s store build in 1845 from a single lady who had lived there for ten years, when he bought it the roofing was rotten, so the whole house needed serious rebuilding, which, him being a former maintenance electrician, they mostly did by themselves. They opened in 2011, having only seven rooms, doing so well that after selling their restaurant in 2015 they acquired a second building 700m away, both hotels now having an occupancy rate of 80%.
If you want to visit the famous Sunday antique market you need to book at least 6 weeks in advance.
Recommended, will come again!

Very nice place and warm welcome. Rooms are extremely decorated and spacy, mixing vintage and modern stuff. Breakfast is excellent. Parking is not an issue in the street and you should find easily restaurant nearby for dinner. Warmly recommended.

We stayed at Caelus VII for a few days in May. A perfect few days, in large part because the hotel was a delight. Better than the website can suggest, neat as a new pin and with the best of staff. An excellent hotel in a town much more interesting than its size might suggest - actually, that's true of the hotel too!
