Review of Anne Frank House

Owner description: All visitors must purchase an online ticket with a time slot in advance. 80% of the tickets are made available on the website two months in advance and 20% on the day itself. The Anne Frank House is a small museum with limited capacity. The demand for tickets is far greater than the number available, so there may be no tickets available for certain dates. We hope you can find a suitable date and welcome you in the Anne Frank House.

Always wanted to visit this site. It has been very much modified externally as a tourist attraction. But once you get inside and get into the annex it was the most heartbreaking, eye opening experience. The whole tour is audio, which can be done in many languages. Lots of steps that are very steep at times, but so informative. I would definitely recommend anyone going to Amsterdam make sure they visit! There is currently on going Work to the site, so you can only book online!

The Anne Frank House is a must for everyone. It is a very moving experience and the audio tour is incredibly informative. Do not be discouraged if the website tells you there are no tickets available, it seems like they release tickets only 2 or 3 days in advance. At the moment, tickets are only available online due to renovations. I was worried the renovations meant parts of the museum were closed and we would not get the full experience but it was not the case. It looks like the museum is adding pieces to the tour.

Anne Frank House is an extremely popular attraction in Amsterdam. Here is how to make the most of your visit:

(1) Buy timed tickets online exactly 2 months prior to your trip. Use google to bookmark their website.

(2) Spend time preparing by reading the book or watching the movie. Worst case at least watch this 4:33 min video before going that is available on their website. This will help provide perspective

(3) Give yourself an hour or so to walk through the entire house.

(4) Expect to hear mostly about the Anne Frank story. While there are some references to the general issues faced by Jews during WWII, this is not the focus of this museum

(5) Do take pictures of little Anne Frank statue near the church on the corner of the block and the front of the shop on Prinsengracht.

(6) Pancakes Amsterdam next door or Cafe de Prins across the canal are great places to grab a bite nearby.

(7) If you have spent time preparing for the visit there are spots that will give you goosebumps - the fake bookcase, original pages of the diary and anne frank's room. Take your time to process what you are seeing.

(8) Be respectful - no pictures are allowed.

My teen daughter and I toured the Anne Frank House during our recent visit to Amsterdam. A previous reviewer urged readers to not bring their kids, but I disagree. I think since many children start reading The Diary of Anne Frank at a middle school age it's vital to take them to the Anne Frank House so they can see for themselves first hand where Anne, her family and 4 others hid for 2 years from the Nazis. The free audio tour is self-paced and takes around 1.5 hours but was very interesting and informative.
