Owner description: The Anne Frank House is a museum with a story. As a visitor, you experience this story through quotes, photos, videos, and original items. The atmosphere in the museum is authentic and subdued. The Anne Frank House can only be visited with an online ticket for a specific date and time. 80% of tickets for any date are released exactly two months in advance. The remaining 20% are released on our website on the day. The demand often exceeds the number of available tickets. We advise you to buy your online tickets well ahead of time. Tickets for holidays and weekends sell out quickly.

The Anne Frank House is a must for everyone. It is a very moving experience and the audio tour is incredibly informative. Do not be discouraged if the website tells you there are no tickets available, it seems like they release tickets only 2 or 3 days in advance. At the moment, tickets are only available online due to renovations. I was worried the renovations meant parts of the museum were closed and we would not get the full experience but it was not the case. It looks like the museum is adding pieces to the tour.

Anne Frank House is an extremely popular attraction in Amsterdam. Here is how to make the most of your visit:

(1) Buy timed tickets online exactly 2 months prior to your trip. Use google to bookmark their website.

(2) Spend time preparing by reading the book or watching the movie. Worst case at least watch this 4:33 min video before going that is available on their website. This will help provide perspective

(3) Give yourself an hour or so to walk through the entire house.

(4) Expect to hear mostly about the Anne Frank story. While there are some references to the general issues faced by Jews during WWII, this is not the focus of this museum

(5) Do take pictures of little Anne Frank statue near the church on the corner of the block and the front of the shop on Prinsengracht.

(6) Pancakes Amsterdam next door or Cafe de Prins across the canal are great places to grab a bite nearby.

(7) If you have spent time preparing for the visit there are spots that will give you goosebumps - the fake bookcase, original pages of the diary and anne frank's room. Take your time to process what you are seeing.

(8) Be respectful - no pictures are allowed.

My teen daughter and I toured the Anne Frank House during our recent visit to Amsterdam. A previous reviewer urged readers to not bring their kids, but I disagree. I think since many children start reading The Diary of Anne Frank at a middle school age it's vital to take them to the Anne Frank House so they can see for themselves first hand where Anne, her family and 4 others hid for 2 years from the Nazis. The free audio tour is self-paced and takes around 1.5 hours but was very interesting and informative.

We first visited Anne Frank House in 1968. At that time there were no queues and the house was pretty much in its original state. It has now been enormously extended with the addition of adjacent properties and has lost much of its atmosphere. The audio tour is extremely good but the large empty spaces don't adequately convey the feeling of confinement and isolation in the same way as before. If you are intending to visit, do not be put off by the web-site booking system. When we first tried to book tickets, the web-site said none available. Based on advice from another Trip Advisor contributor we kept trying (up to 3 times per day) and suddenly there were tickets being released for the day we wanted.
