Just a quick mention before I begin… I only stay at and review 5* hotels.

The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof….Wow. What a great experience. Part of this review is definitely inspired by my awe of the beautiful village and ski resort of Zermatt as well as the Zermatterhof itself.

We travelled by train from Lausanne to Zermatt and I called the Zermatterhof when we reached Visp to arrange for transport from the train station to the hotel. We were lucky to be greeted by the horse and carriage. My nieces, 11 and 13, were thrilled, with one of them being able to sit at the reigns for our trip to the hotel. When we arrived, it was a beautiful day and the hotel had reserved for us, seating outside in front of the hotel for an aperitif.

I had booked a large suite with a living room and an extra room attached with a Matterhorn view. It was a great situation to relax in front of the lit fireplace and enjoy some apres ski or sit outside as the sun came down. The view from our room was so beautiful, it’s now my Facebook cover picture.

The pool was a nice plus, especially for my nieces as some hotels we’ve stayed at in the past don’t allow kids after a certain time of the day. Everyone at the pool and in the spa was comfortable and respectful of the surroundings.

The ski room attendants were super great. They gave us knowledgable direction and helped a family of 5 get our things together every day. Breakfast was OVER THE TOP….There is nothing to want for because they will make it happen….even a request for a favorite flavor of yogurt was kindly provided.

My only issue with this hotel was the pullout couch, which was not comfortable at all. I specifically asked when booking and was reassured it was comfortable. But it’s not. Had I known better in advance I would have booked another room. We were a family of 5 and really needed 3 beds, and thought the pullout in the living room would suffice. Again, it did not.

The hotel, all and all, was a true gem --- the staff was great from check in to check out, to the guy who lit our fire each night to the staff in the ski room, to the lobby bar, room service and the outdoors service. WE WILL BE BACK!

Room Tip: Spend some time with the reservationist to figure out the best configuration for a family.

The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof is a beautiful hotel in the little town of Zermatt in the Alps. As you arrive in Zermatt the hotel is at the train station to pick you up. This hotel offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn and the other peaks surrounding Zermatt. All the staff were very helpful, especially Tim, who helped in the bar, Jasmine, who helped us during check in and check out, and Daniella, who helped us with our skiing. The staff even went out of their way to send back an article that we had left in our hotel room. All the restaurants at the hotel were very good. At night, our room did get a little hot but other than that, no complaints! The town of Zermatt offers nice shops that sell authentic Swiss souvenirs, and also many high-end brands.
Zermatt is a great place to visit if you ski or snowboard! This hotel offers ski lockers for each guest in the basement of the hotel, and also recommends a place to rent equipment. The hotel is close to many lifts to get up the mountain and is a great hotel for skiers.

We stayed for 3 nights and loved the room, the attentive staff, spectacular breakfasts and the piano bar.
Great restaurants, a huge pool and every comfort with a magnificent view of the Matterhorn.
We will return!

The best hotel in the town. Very well situated and with beautiful rooms. The breakfast room is amazing and the breakfast served is very good with lots of options. Zermatt is a town that is car free which makes walking around a pleasure.

Room Tip: room on the 5th floor

We stayed at Grand Hotel Zermatterhof and it was simply an unforgettable experience. The luxury hotel is located at the center of town, next to the Matterhorn Museum. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful staff with welcome drinks. Once we had a chance to relax, a staffer showed us around the various restaurants on the first floor and then to our room. We had booked a small double room and there was plenty of space for our suitcases, gear, etc. This was an excellent base camp from which to visit the three main skill hills, and the pool/spa in the ground floor was the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes with jacuzzi, sauna, and massage available. Breakfast was filling with wonderful variety of dishes.

The hotel also has a secure locker room for ski equipment with drying hooks for ski boots. We rented equipment from Matterhorn Sports almost connected to Zermatterhof, and don’t miss the gift shop across the street from the Matterhorn Museum which has very competitive prices. On the day we left Zermatt (sadly), we had the perfect view of the Matterhorn on the hotel steps. We will definitely return!
