Hotel des Alpes Welcomes You to Lucerne

Review of Hotel des Alpes
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 28, 2019
Hotel des Alpes is less than ten minutes walking from the Train Station upon arrival in Lucerne. The reception was welcoming and explained how to get around, use the hotel and restaurant, and get to and from your room with their state-of-the-art elevator. Everything was clean and well-maintained and/or new. The room was cute and had exactly what I needed: a bed, en suite bathroom and shower, coffee maker, table and chair, and the best feature - a patio overlooking the Chapel Bridge, Mt. Pilatus, and Lake Lucerne with chair and table. The restaurant food was excellent and delicious for breakfast (Continental), lunch and dinner. You have the option of eating inside or outside for lunch and dinner. Their excellent daily menu also included a unique special combination of starter and main course that was different each day. Again, the staff was excellent and took care of me and answered any questions. Helpful hint when booking: Be sure to check that the Hotel des Alpes you are requesting is the one in Lucerne next to the Chapel Bridge as their are several other Hotel des Alpes throughout Switzerland.

We stayed for two nights mid October. The hotel is ideally located for the city centre. the historic wooden bridge crosses outside the hotel.
The staff is good value and the staff were very helpful and the room very comfortable with a great view of the town.
We did eat in the hotel and it was one of the best meals we had whilst in Switzerland. The area around the hotel is very busy but the noise did not filter through to the hotel.
A very enjoyable stay

Room tip: Try for a room at the front

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel des Alpes. Great location, near the train station, right on the river with a beautiful view of Mt. Pilatus and Chapel Bridge. Our room was clean, the staff friendly and helpful and an excellent breakfast.

Room tip: Ask for a room with a view of Chapel Bridge

Charming hotel with a great view and perfect location. We stayed here for two nights and chose a room with a view of the historic covered bridge.
The room was clean and spacious with a very large shower by European standards.
Hairdryer in the room. Coffee and tea in the room. And a small refrigerator in the room. All nice touches.
The balcony off our room allowed us to sit outside at night and enjoy the sights and sounds of Lucerne in the Autumn season.
We were only able to enjoy the wonderful breakfast buffet one morning as we had to catch an early train our final morning.
We checked out the evening before as recommended since the front desk is not staffed in the early hours.
They graciously asked when we were scheduled to leave and had two cups of take away coffee, some pastries and breads in a bag for us. So nice!!
Lovely place to stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at Des Alps. It was right across the street from the beautiful Kappeler Bridge. Everything we wanted to see was in walking distance. The room was comfortable (even if I’m used to large rooms in the US), the bed, blankets and pillows were delightful. I needed to print out a last minute train ticket at 1:45 am and there was someone around the desk to help me out. I was not fond of their restaurant but there are at least 15 others in walking distance. The staff were friendly, English speaking and helpful.

This is a three star hotel with the location and views from the river side rooms its best asset. For groups it is a short walk from where the tour buses are required to drop off/and pick up. There is no porterage service in the hotel. The included breakfast is
on the basic side.
I booked a reception room nine months in advance only to receive an email a few months later that the time of the reception ( moved 4 hours earlier) and the room
would also be changed. This was done without even consulting me first and without
concern that I had 15 rooms booked. So of course I cancelled the reservation and
moved the event to a nearby wine bar. Obviously they had gotten a later reservation
for a larger group. This is totally unacceptable and to make matters worse no apology was offered.

Room tip: Rooms overlooking the Reuss river.
