The Mandarin Oriental Luzern is a lovely hotel with adequate air conditioning unlike many of the most luxurious Swiss hotels (those above a certain altitude supposedly are precluded from installing air conditioning by law). So, if you need a cool room to sleep and are traveling during the summer months, this is a safe selection. Although pricy, it is worth it. The rooms are state-of-the-art and are immaculately maintained and seem completely soundproof. The hotel is located right on the promenade and the lake, and most rooms seem to face that direction, and therefore they are not located above the busy street on the opposite side of the hotel. Note that the hotel’s Michelin star restaurant is closed during the summer. The staff and facilities are top notch, and the spa (ask for Max the female manager) is intimate and excellent.
