Owner description: The house where Giacomo Puccini was born in 1858 is now a museum, which houses portraits, scores, sketches and other memorabilia related to this famous composer's life and career.

Granted this has very historical significance as the birthplace of Puccini and I certainly would say that, at the price, it is worth visiting. However it is very sparsely furnished and is more a museum to letters/music scores. Well routed tour with good audio but not somewhere that would take up much time to visit. His house at Torre del Lago is much more atmospheric.

Don't forget to buy your ticket across the square before you enter the museum. The museum itself is in the house where Puccini lived with his family. You can see letters, sheets of music written by Puccini of course, pictures. You will get a map which you can follow through the museum. There are drawers that you can pull out and there is more information. Sadly there are many labels that are not translated to English. A costume from Turandot is displayed in one of the rooms. A beautiful Steinway grand piano on which he composed Turandot meets you in the first room. The museum is restored to how it looked when Puccini lived there as a child.
The ticket office has a lot of souvenirs such as CDs, pens, bags etc.

It is always a wonderful place to visit and re-visit. A very informative introduction to the Maestro and his operas. Periodically there are new additions made making it a place to visit again. And a room not to missed is the Turandot room with
its magnificent Turandot costume.

Well worth a visit for any opera fan. Seeing the detail of his life up close and personal was wonderful. Entrance fee reasonable.

As Lucca is supposedly all about Puccini, I decided that a visit to Lucca would be not complete without visiting the museum. It was a pleasant introduction to his life & times. It’s nice that it’s set in a house.
