The gallery itself is amazing. Definitely book a tour and beat the 2 and a half hour queue. The guide was helpful and informative and Michelangelo's David was breathtaking. HOWEVER, the gift shop staff have a major attitude problem, downright rude and unhelpful. Felt like they were doing us a favour by lowering themselves to serve us. Slight dampener on an otherwise fabulous day.

A visit here is an awesome experience! The David (of David and Goliath fame) is colossal, MUCH larger than I had imagined. It holds a huge "artistic space" and therefore you are mesmerized even from a distance. It was a breathtaking experience and you can linger as long as you wish.

The "no reservation" line is often several blocks long, meaning a wait of several hours before you are admitted. Arrange to pay a convenience fee of 4€ (plus admission fee of about 13€) on line. With your voucher, go across the street from the entrance to #51, and exchange your voucher for your (timed) admission ticket. Then get into the "red line" (people with reservations).... you reduce your wait to about 30 minutes. Expect to go through a security point; leave your large backpacks in your hotel.

Absolutely incredibe!

To be honest, the Accademia is somewhat interesting but is not especially great when compared to great art museums. However, when one has a guide who is passionate about the work of Michaelangelo, the place comes to life. Yes "David" is amazing, yes there are some interesting icons, musical instruments and paintings, but no - it is not worth the long wait, unless you have a guide.

We went to the Accademia Gallery. We had a prepaid reservation to skip the line. We really enjoyed seeing David. All 17 feet of him! I also enjoyed the musical instrument Museum. My daughter was enthralled with the instruments of the Medicis.

It was worth a visit here just to see David - he is amazing. It is a wonderful work of art by Michelangelo and in real life the statue is even bigger and more amazing than you'd imagine. The other sculptures are also beautiful but David is definitely the jewel in the crown. There was queue to get in but we used our Firenze card and so we did not have to wait in line.
