I found some of the staff officious and rude, for example to hire the audio guide I had to pay €6 and leave my driving licence as ID for a minimalist oratory discriptiion, over the top in my opinion just for an audio guide! However it's worth a visit for the art and Roman sculptures and the decoration and views from the palace. The queues are long to purchase same day tickets, worth buying tickets the day before. It can be quite tiring walking and standing around for 2 to 3 hours so don't walk to the top of the tower the same afternoon as I did!

We toured the Uffizi on a Viator early access tour with skip-the-line ticket, run by Keys of Florence. Our tour ended up being private since there were no- shows. Our guide was Viola D, an art historian. The tour was perfect, giving us a good understanding of the art seen, the history of the time, and the changes in style over the years. It was worth every penny! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Having a guided tour really helps for such a large place, making sure we hit the high spots.

We had a three hour tour with Paolo Russo in the Uffizi Gallery. We booked in advance and Paolo got the tickets in advance so that helped us minimize the lines to enter. It was so worth it. He was knowledgeable, considerate and passionate about art, Florence and the Uffizi. He was able to guide us through the museum, through Michelangelo's life, career and amazing talent. It is an amazing place but without some guidance everything looks wonderful but you miss all the details about the artists and their lives.
