The views are spectacular and I would think worth paying an additional supplement for.
Our room was clean, a reasonable size and standard - the bathroom was a bit of a let down with one of those awful wall mounted hairdryers which don't actually dry your hair.
Breakfast was good - nice variety of foods although it got very samey after a few days. There were a lot of pastries and sweet foods, so probably ideal if you have a sweet tooth (neither my husband nor I do). Sometimes there seemed to be an awful lot of waiting staff just hanging around at breakfast time.
Ate at the restaurant one night - the food was very good and the waiter was lovely, however, the bar service was extremely slow which was very disappointing.
Pool was a decent size. Quite busy most of the days we were there. The bar does put on music which can get a little annoying if you want peace and quiet.
The hotel is set away from the main town. The shuttle is very useful although can get a bit busy in the early evenings. It is possible to walk in to Taormina and is a pleasant stroll - although some is uphill and I would think it would be quite a difficult walk in the height of the heat of summer.
A nice hotel. The staff were very charming and helpful.

Room Tip: The sea view is a must

the view from the hotel is beautiful, the bed very comfortable but there is light from the AC system and the fire alarm which are too strong. The breakfast is quite good and the restaurant excellent. the staffs are pleasant and very service oriented. Easy to go from there to the center of the town by feet or to longer walks to different historic sites

Room Tip: take a room with see view

This place is absolutely a great find. It’s a walk away from the main town has a gym, swimming pool, spa stuff, super restaurant, we had breakfast overlooking the ocean, it has a shuttle service into town, super staff and much more. Visit it and see what else is on offer here

The staff at the hotel were friendly and very accommodating (as our pick-up was late afternoon, they moved us to another room as this was more comfortable than waiting in the lobby). Beautiful view from our room overlooking the sea. Hotel is a 15 minute walk to the centre of Taormina but a free shuttle is available for the guests. I strongly recommend this hotel for a stay in Taormina.

Room Tip: Rooms with seaview and balcony (more expensive but worth it)

The Grand San Pietro is extremely well located – within a 15 minute (uphill) walk to the centre of Taormina. If not wishing to walk however, the hotel offers an hourly courtesy transfer service.
The hotel is an old property, which, throughout the years has obviously undergone upgrading but by today’s standards (expected of a 5*) it sadly misses the mark in a number of key areas.
All of the staff (without exception) are truly wonderful – attentive and efficient - but there simply isn’t enough of them and so they are physically unable to deliver 5* service. E.G. Often only one member of the team is manning Reception and this individual is regularly faced with a queue of people waiting for their undivided attention. One person mans the swimming pool area and therefore is responsible for issuing towels, tidying-up (after bathers), preparing and delivering ordered drinks etc. On warm sunny days, when the poolside is busy, it’s unreasonable to expect one member of staff to cope with the demands of an array of many discerning guests.
Accommodation is adequate but ‘old’ and in need of upgrade. E.G. 1970’s style hairdryer on the bathroom wall – it would be quicker to blow your own hair dry than try to cope with such an appliance!!
Tip: Ask for a more powerful hairdryer – I did and had one provided.
Toilets in public areas (pool etc.) were not manned on a regular basis and therefore were to be found without paper and/or in a terrible mess!!
During our 12-night stay, we were extremely lucky to have been allocated a 6th (top) floor room with a balcony overlooking the sea with glorious views and much of our enjoyment came from making full use of this but we couldn’t do so after dark (for reading etc.) as the balcony had no light source.
Many rooms (located to the front of the property) look onto a busy access road so my recommendation would be to ‘pay the extra’ and enjoy the stunning views!
Breakfast in the hotel was ‘adequate’ and beautifully presented (self-service) but could benefit from a better array of different options (for those staying a longer period) as the staple options became quite boring and predictable. Note: Anything not contained within the breakfast buffet was available on request at an extra charge.
We did enjoy our time at The Grand San Pietro, much to do with the friendliness of the team there and not for the facilities on offer.
