Whilst staying in Verona this week we enjoyed a late dinner in the Osteria Locandina Cappello restaurant on Via Cappello just two minutes walk from Piazza Erbe. From the outside it looked like any other of the local bistro restaurants. However, when we ventured inside we were led through the warm and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant bar to an adjacent large room to dine. It was very busy and popular with what appeared to be many regular local Italians dining and chatting. The menu provides a range of anti-pasta, prima, second, main courses and desserts with the pizza and pasta dishes ranging in price from 13 euros upwards. I opted for a chicken dish that was slightly more in price with additional grilled vegetables. When it arrived, it was served on a slate slab and looked as though it had been prepared by a Masterchef finalist. Not only did it look 5 star but the subtle blend of flavours were divine. The waiter service was friendly and professional and the meal went down well with a recommended bottle of Valpollicella Classic. Dessert was a luxurious indulgence of a local recipe. I highly recommend this restaurant for its top quality service and dining experience.
I was hesitant to go to a resto with a 'four language menu' on the main square but as I walked away, I saw the perfect table in the sun and thought I'd give it a try....
Friendly service. Amazing setting. Ordered a prosecco - came in a wine glass and not bubbly, not what I expected, but okay....
Bread was four white rolls and bread sticks, kept looking at my neighbor's dark bread, but okay....
Ordered lasagna and it came hot, was tasty, good pick. I saw - yes I did - both donkey and horse meat on the menu and asked what the meet was before I ordered. I was told it was beef. And it tasted as I would have imagined it should....
Good to be aware that 'ragu', as in meat pasta sauce, could be anything....
I know this place has horrible reviews but I had a lively lunch. Others who ordered pasta seemed to have nice meals. Did not seem my table neighbors were totally taken with their pizza and fried cutlet.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Italy - this is not one of them. Our 4 meals were average but my son’s chicken was uncooked in the middle. The service was lacklustre and indifferent. Avoid!
This has to be the WORST restaurant I've ever been in. The staff were RUDE. At least 3 couples complained about their food while we waited for ours. When it came out after about 4 minutes, I wasn't surprised to realise that I would be complaining too. I ordered lasagne, but there was no meat in it!!! They had obviously run out of Bolognese and filled the layers with white sauce instead! I sent it back but there was no apology or offer of a replacement. The establishment is clearly falling apart, staff were all arguing amongst themselves yet they had the CHEEK to charge a service charge of 3 euros. The only positive is that there was free bread. Dont be FOOLED by the nice exterior - AVOID at all costs!
