Owner description: Built in the first century AD, this is one of the best conserved Roman amphitheatres, whose seating area is made up of 44 levels and can hold up to 22,000 spectators.

This is definitely "must see" in Verona, the building itself was built in AD 30 on a site which was then beyond the city walls. The amphitheatre could host more than 30,000 spectators in ancient times so it was 4th in whole Romanian empire.
Our kids were very impressed with all they saw.

The entrance fee for Arena regularly costs 20 EUR for adults (kids pay 3 EUR), but we hit the action "first Sunday in the month" so the fee was just 1 EUR pp!

This is well worth the short drive from Milan to Verona. The arena was absolutely stunning. You really feel as if you are stepping back in history. We had no problem buying tickets, they spoke english, and even suggested a cheaper bundle for us. This is a must see.

We visited the Arena first thing in the morning as the queues build up very quickly and stretch right across the piazza. There was a lot of construction work taking place to get the arena ready for the show season which obviously has to be done, but meant many areas were out of bounds. We ended up getting stuck and having to go back on ourselves several times. There are lots of steep steps involved (again, obvious) and it rained she we were there so it was quite sloppy and there aren't many handrails. You get a great view from the top row and can walk all the way around the outer top. There are 3 information boards explaining the history which are very interesting but difficult to see when there are more than 20 people reading them. The toilets were pretty awful. I imagine that this is the perfect place to visit in the summer.

As you take romantic strolls through Verona, you will stumble no doubt with the Arena. Very beautiful place. Mystique starts from the outside where the downtown everyday life is amazing. When I was there, there was a small market outside with many local exhibitions of produce. We had a blast, the arena is beautiful to look at and if you get a chance, check listings to see if there is a concert you can attend. The weather (we where there during summer) was amazing and the cool night breeze made it spectacular. ENJOY!

Would be better if their ticket buying system was more organised and there was more information around the site. Staff either surly and smoking (man near entrance) or tired and hassled (ticket office).

However the site itself is just a privilege to see and has been preserved officially since the 16th century- a gem.
