This is classy restaurant, with a great menu and interesting, beautifully presented and tasty Venetian grub. We booked too late to be outside - so do book well ahead - but inside was nice anyhow. The service is solid and professional, but not homely, as it's quite a high-end outfit. The best dish we had was the truly delicious whipped salt cod with fried onions and sardines - much better than it sounds on paper! The turbot mains was really tasty too. Everything else we had was good - apart from the 'new' tiramisu, which was an unsuccessful reinvention. It's a lovely place that we'd happily recommend. X

It was a perfect meal with seating alongside a canal. You could watch the gondole gliding by as you ate.
All courses were delicious - the spaghetti with vongole in the spinach sauce. A great combination.
The main courses; the sea bass was cooked perfectly and the tender beef with the mustard sauce was perfect.
Tiramisù with the coffee granita and the zabaione, a great way to finish a meal.
The staff were all helpful and the sommelier selected a perfect red for the meal.
This restaurant is tiny, so you should book.

We spent some time researching places to have dinner on our last night in Venice, L'Osteria di Santa Marina was a perfect choice! Elegant, great food, nice setting. Just conveniently located enough, but away from the main touristy stuff (when in August it can be shoulder to shoulder with people). Locals and a few well-informed tourists. Everything we had was so good, mainly had fish dishes.

Did some research, and although we only have 2 Dinners in Venice, decide to go with this for one. Reached there at the appointed time, and the waiters were quite nice, showing us the 2 tables outside, and asked us to choose which one we wanted. This was a nice touch, as client starts to feel good, he has got what he wanted. I was intending to go for the tasting menu, but the wife did not want to have that, so she had Risotto, and I had Paccheri. Rice was given 6./10, beautifully served in a lovely dish, but a very thin layer, which was too small a portion, and also went quickly cold. Sprinkled on top with some crab meat, not much of a taste really. The Paccheri were better, they got 7.5/10 served steaming hot with a lovely flavourful sauce , and actual pieces of sea food [could have been more though]. We followed this with a Sea Bass for my wife, which she really liked, gave it a 8/10, very delicate flavour. I had Tuna, crispy on the outside, red on the inside, lovely. I would also give it a 7.5-8/10. We followed this with an Avatar of Tiramisu, which was very interesting, as had all the flavours, but can be called 'nouveau' Tiramisu, as was missing all the mascarpone, and was much lighter. Would give that a 9/10.

L'Osteria di Santa Marina is a family-style Venice restaurant that clearly attracts a range of locals either simply for a meal or to celebrate an event. It is pleasantly noisy and atmospheric with much fun and laughter - as well as very high quality food, wine and service. It is a place to relax, eat well and have fun with friends and family. We had dinner there on two evenings, and both were excellent. The Maitre'D was superb, and the staff were excellent. Would definitely go back again.
