Description: Canova restaurant in the superb Baglioni Hotel Luna in Venice is an exclusive, sophisticated place to enjoy award-winning cuisine. The Hotel itself has history in spades – it was once home to the Knights Templar and has been an albergo since the Middle Ages, reputedly the first hotel in Venice. Sited near the Piazza San Marco at the mouth of the Grand Canal, few hotel restaurants enjoy such a superb setting. The dining room is a haven of soft, Venetian classicism, with wood paneled walls, exquisite table settings, neutral, plush upholstery and fleet, unobtrusive service. The menu is a mixture of Venetian specialties and international favourites. If you are hosting a meeting or private event, the hotel is fully equipped to assist you in every respect.

We stayed in this hotel and since we had a credit for dinner, we decided to have dinner here for our first night. Nice people however restaurant was empty outside if us and another family. The server broke a small lamp so we had to move. The menu and food was different. We wanted to stay with local classics but just odd plating and colors. The food was not good. The hotel needs to be refreshed so everything doesn’t feel so dated.

Being the main (and only) restaurant of a luxury hotel, the Canova more than lies up to expectations. Located on the lobby level, just to the right of the entrance, it offers outstanding, friendly and attentive service and a great selection of appetizers, Primi piatti and Secondi. The wine list focuses on the Veneto region, although other prominent producing regions are also represented. The food is well-prepared and seasoned and beautifully presented. Prices are commensurate with the level of the hotel.

We ate at this restaurant a few years ago so happily returned during a brief visit to Venice. We sat outside and very much enjoyed lunch with local wine.

Luckily we found Canova Restaurant at the Baglioni Hotel Luna where they were nice (the first 2 places we tried could not handle my husband's allergy to garlic). We sat outside with a view of the canal with gondolas and a small bridge (along with some construction). Tasty bread, one of the best lasagna I’ve ever had, and a Coke Zero for me while my husband had a Fanta & delicious tender beef filet with grilled veggies. We also shared a bottle of mineral water and I ate my husband's eggplant while he had his carrots and zucchini. Only 82 euros and since we had such helpful service I gave a nice cash tip which made the waiter my best friend!

Canova was our favorite restaurant in Venice. A varied menu, fairly priced. Atmosphere is quiet for romantic meal for special occasion. We ordered the chef's menu (70 Euro) that was varied and excellent with ample portions. Wine list covers all of the Italian regions but is not large, but fairly priced. Service is attentive by knowledgeable staff.
