Very appealing hotel, good value, and nice setting

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 19, 2013
The photo associated with this hotel makes it appear rather stark and urban, which is not the case. It is located a stone's throw from the major archaeology sites, the Basilica, and the National Archaeological Museum. It is accessible via bus from Cervignano train station (less than two euros) or by taxi (about twenty euros). Aquileia is about ten minutes from the train station.

The town is a pretty amazing place for viewing the remnants of a major Roman city, and the whole general area is upscale and attractive.

The hotel has excellent modern rooms for very little money and a very good restaurant and bar. The staff could not be nicer or more helpful. Windows are double-glazed, making the rooms quiet. Bathrooms are very modern and uncramped. The hotel's wifi service is excellent and free. Rooms come with a nice breakfast included in the charge. Though it's possible to book a "half-board" including a "touristic" dinner menu, I'd advise having fun with the excellent full menu, which is unusually good and inexpensive. Try some local wines, too. While I was there, quite a few locals dropped in for a drink or a morning coffee--a good sign. Around the block, facing the basilica, is a truly wonderful gelato, coffee, and pastry shop. There are unusually good shops for gift-buying in the same stretch.
Date of stay: October 2013
Room Tip: One side of the hotel fronts on the main road into Aquileia. Light sleepers might wish to...

beautiful hotel (architecture, rooms in antique style) very good kitchen, nice terass, good service. The hotel is the central place in beautiful Aquilea, where you can experience early christian culture. From the hotel you are immediately in the historical centre. The atmosphere in the hotel was great, though there were many people. Good service for the restaurant for answering questions about the region etc.

A clean and warm family room with amazing view to the basilica and campanile, though it's 6:30am tolling was a little loud with windows open!

The staff were helpful and welcoming. Our breakfast was delicious and our teeneagers enjoyed the jam buscuits!

Dinner was delicious, the service exceptional - especially the wine decanting.

A perfect base for exploring the antiquities of Aquileia on foot.

We were passing through Italy from Croatia and wanted a night somewhere handy to highway through to Austria. This was a convenient place to stay for the night, quiet and comfortable. Plenty to see with regard to roman ruins, make sure you check out the museum a short walk away, wonderful mosaics to be seen and many treasures to wow over. Room was spacious and our bathroom had an amazing view over the old Basilica. Good restaurant in Hotel. Free parking.

Centrally located within walking distance of the fabulous mosaics at the basilica and all the Roman remains. The room was spacious and the bathroom all modern . Everything was beautifully fresh and clean. We went for half board which proved the right choice as the restaurant was really good .Breakfast was excellent too with plenty of choice.
Good base if you have a car for Grado, Udine, Gorizia. Would recommend a visit to the mosaic school at Spilimbergo.
