We spent one night here during an Italy/Croatia road trip, and it was a great staging ground for exploring Modena. Hotel was fairly basic but service was friendly and excellent. Secure garage parking on site was important for us and they delivered.

The Canalgrande is a lovely old building, but it is a bit dated. The room was comfortable, but the air conditioner was on one wall and didn’t quite cool the room down. The location was good and close to everything we wanted to see and there was a cool street very close with restaurants, cafes and bars. The breakfast spread was quite big but left a bit to be desired and didn’t have toast, just dinner rolls.

Charming hotel, with a GREAT breakfast (great breads, pastries, scrambled eggs & bacon, yogurts & oatmeal, corn flakes, nuts, fruit, fresh squeezed juices, crisp bread, meats, cheese, etc.), delightful staff, beautiful terrace and garden and great location. My husband solved the very prominent bed springs by putting a blanket triple folded under the bottom sheet. We really enjoyed our stay.

This is a very smart comfortable hotel. It is traditional old-fashioned class worth proper service right from arrival. Rooms are comfortable with a decent shower, air conditioning which is easily managed and switched off if you like real air and an open window. I had a wonderful night.

I like to have breakfast in comfort, that means quiet, good choice and with real napkins. This hotel has all that along with friendly service and excellent cappuccino.

The great plus is the beautiful well maintained private garden. What a superb place to relax.

Wish I could have stayed longer, will definitely come back!

The weather was so horrible, (cold and rainy) that we spent much more time in the hotel than we might have. I must say that the seating areas downstairs are most hospitable! There are various rooms available and although the garden is beautiful, in the cold and rain it wasn’t a place to spend time!

The people in the hotel are most welcoming and the location is perfect. The restaurant was closed during our visit, but the front desk was very helpful in making reservations when needed.

The hotel itself is beautiful and made up for being stuck indoors.

I can’t give another star as at breakfast when things are finished, that’s it...
