Another fab meal in Bologna. Met by Stefano. Lovely friendly man who advised on the wine and told us about the visit from Rick Stein who came here. Gave us his complimentary limoncello. Outstanding cuisine here very skilfully prepared by chef Ricardo who was introduced to us too. Every mouthful of my main course was a joy.

We were spurred on to try this restaurant
on the back of Rick Stein’s television coverage of it and he was not wrong. This is a little gem in the heart of Bologna. The staff were attentive, the food delicious and best of all, the sommelier who talked us through the wines did not try to make us have the most expensive wines but the tastiest. The beef cheeks was pure unadulterated deliciousness.

Admittedly, we like many others, tried this place out having seen Rick Stein’s weekend in Bologna.

We went for 1930 and by 8pm, it was pretty full; possibly 50/50 between locals and tourists.

We shared the tortellini al carbone, which the kitchen split into two plates for us, followed by the Gurnard special plus the turbot and ending with sharing the pear and cheese mousse. (Sounds odd, but was lovely). All were delicious. We liked that they also gave you an amuse bouche, a pre desert and petit fours and of course, bread and breadsticks. We also tried a very nice local Sauvignon. Service was friendly and efficient and not a bad place to try some great seafood.

Arrived to the hotel quite late at 21.30 and asked the front desk if there were any nearby restaurants still serving. They managed to get this one just around the corner. Unfortunately we forgot to mention that we didn't eat fish and this one specialises in fish dishes - if you're a fish lover there's a superb range of dishes. However there were enough other options on the menu for us to
enjoy a nice meal. The prices are probably on the higher side but the quality was good and the service was friendly and professional. After our main meal we decided to share a 24/36/48 months platter of parmigiano cheese. We were disappointed with the 48 month old cheese as it seemed very hard and a bit bitter. When the owner asked us if we had enjoyed it we commented on the 48 month cheese. He said he would check this with the kitchen and returned shortly after to apologise for the cheese and to thank us for querying the quality. It had only been delivered that morning but apparently it was slightly off! He was going to phone the supplier very early the next morning to complain and he also removed the cost of the cheese from our bill.

We came here because of the Rick Stein feature but it didn't quite live up to our (admittedly high) expectations. It felt like a touristy place and the service was a bit over-polite. Food fine but for us the whole experience didn't justify the high cost.
