We spent a few days in Madrid in this gorgeous, historical hotel. It was close to phenomenal shopping, restaurants, and Parque del Buen Retiro. The area it’s in is upscale which makes it less touristy, which we appreciated after spending our daytime amongst thousands of other travelers. The rooms were nicely sized and included every amenity you could want. The only criticism we have is in regard to the staff. There were many times where we would walk into the hotel and not be acknowledged let alone greeted by 1 of the 3-4 people behind the desk. I would expect a bit more in that department from a 5-star hotel. When we engaged with the staff they were lovely and they even brought up a birthday desert for me on the house, which was unexpected and appreciated! Also, my husband was on a mission throughout our entire honeymoon to access an iron and ironing board at the hotels we stayed in. We found out that in Spain and Portugal, hotels may keep one on hand for guests who request it but are very strict about returning it immediately upon use. It was frustrating for him who wanted to iron his nice shirts for dinner each evening. It sounds small, but Wellington Hotel had the best iron and ironing board, and even let us hang onto it for a couple of days, which my husband appreciated.
All things considered, we really liked the hotel and recommend it!

The Wellington is a traditional Grand Hotel located perfectly for a Madrid City Trip. The rooms are not as big as expected but perfectly furnished in an old style. Bathrooms very good - we loved asll the Amenities like shower gel, Soap etc.
We stayed for 5 days - very very satisfied with the complete stay.
The Breakfast room is very busy in the morning, even a little hectic. The staff is competent and friendly - unfortunately English is not well spoken, so ist better to know a Little Spanish.
The Bar is expensive - € 48 for 2 Gin Tonic.
Watch out - you ll have to pay extra for the Spa. The gym ist nearly perfect, the outdoor pool is only open in summer.
The Madrid City tour bus starts right in front of the Hotel. Walking distance to Prado.

In General you ll have to sleep with closed Windows because Madrid is very very loud. Windows closed ist perfect - Beds very comfortable.

Room Tip: rooms away from CValle Velasquez

The Wellington Hotel earns its 5-star rating. Comfortable, modern, and luxurious. The breakfast buffet is bountiful and the service superior. The Prado is a pleasant mile (or less) walk through the attractive Buen Retiro Park gardens. Several very good restaurants nearby. Definitely recommended.

We spent 4 nights in April, 2018, and found it to exceed our expectations. We give it top marks for location (5 minutes from Retiro Park and walking distance from the main museums, close to excellent resteraunts in the elegant Salamanca area), friendly and efficient service (one of the quickest food room services we have ever seen), cleanliness and excellent food including a superb breakfast (except for the watery scrambled eggs). The rooms are somewhat small but not by European standards. Our “superior” room had a very nice bathroom. We did find the room a bit too hot and couldn’t lower the temperature. The hotel deserves at least 4 1/2 stars and we would stay there again.
