Because of over booking at our original hotel in Barcelona (travel company's fault), we were re-booked Catalonia Ramblas. Was an upgrade, for sure! We couldn't have been more happy with the mistake. Catalonia Ramblas is located about a block from Las Ramblas which is an area rich with dining and shopping. The Metro and public bus stops are close for easy travel to most destinations in the city. We walked to most places with ease. If walking isn't your thing, taxis are easy to hail from the hotel (especially if you have the bellman do it for you).
The hotel staff was amazing from start to finish. Very professional and eager to make your stay a pleasant one. We were greeted with a "buenos dias" each time we left and each time we returned. Our room was amazingly spacious and well appointed. OMG, the bathroom had a large tub and separate walk in rain shower. Heaven! We arrived from Paris where the rooms are notoriously small, so we were very appreciative of the room at Catalonia Ramblas. We had a small issue with our sink in the bathroom draining slow. I brought it to the attention of the front desk when we left for the day. It was immediately addressed, so when we returned it was fixed.
The amenities at the hotel are a huge plus at Catalonia Ramblas. Our room had a fully stocked mini fridge and snacks (all chargeable upon use, but sometimes you like that convenience), the bathroom had everything that you would need and there was a safe for our valuables and extra cash. My wife and sister-in-law went to the spa one evening for massages, which was delightful. As guests we had access to the jetted spa and sauna free of charge as well. Breakfast is amazing here as well. There was an egg station for omelets or any other style of eggs. There were meat and cheese stations (very European) along with fruit, yogurt, bread and pastry stations.
For those who may be experiencing European countries for the first time, I have to let you know that coffee is very different. It is stronger and smaller than Americans are used to. They mostly take it with milk too, but if you order an Americano you will get the closest thing that they have to what we are used to. Not sure if breakfast is complimentary though. Our tour package pre-arranged for ours to be of no charge.
I can't say enough about how enjoyable our stay was at Catalonia Ramblas! The perfect hotel (for us) in the perfect location. It will be our first choice when we book our next trip to amazing Barcelona!
