The hotel is in a good location right off of Plaça de Catalunya and about 1 block from La Rambla. Felt safe walking the streets around the hotel.

The front desk staff and bell captain were friendly and helpful in recommending some great restaurants.

Rooms are large with good air conditioning. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the street below. There were 2 sets of doors to the balcony, which drowned out all the sounds from the street below. Our room had a combined bathtub/shower...the water pressure was very good and you can adjust the height of the shower head - very helpful for someone who is short like me.

There is a small lounge area with comfortable chairs and a little bar. We sat here in the evening to watch one of the Euro Cup futbol/soccer games.

Only negative was that the internet went down the afternoon we arrived and didn't come back before we left the following morning.

The staff are superficially nice (see story below). Location is great. But that's it. The air conditioning on a hot couple of days did very little to cool my room. The "fan" should be labelled "ocassional puffs of cool air." The worst part was that I was there on combined business/sight seeing trip. I desperately needed to do some work for which I needed reliable internet, one of the reasons I choose this hotel. On Friday night the internet goes down, I ask routinely (every few hours) when it will be up again and receive a different answer every time I ask. Such great lines as "oh we have been working on it all night" (sure, that's convincing) or "it will be up soon" which was a frequent response. After two days I check out having had to make do by running from cafe to cafe using internet on my phone. Major inconvenience and an unapologetic staff who obviously could care less. But yes, they are superficially nice.

Just spent 4 days at this delightful hotel. Comfortable and clean rooms. The hotel is well located for shopping, sights and restaurants as well as being close to the airport bus stop which is a plus. The breakfast is outstanding with an enormous choice of hot and cold dishes. One can get away of the hussle and bustle and relax beside the small but adequate swimming pool. All in all the hotel ticks all the boxes

Their was building going on next door and across the way, and once we told the hotel about it they were very accommodating in moving us to a less noisy room.
Also it seems builders don't take a siesta in the afternoon.

What a good choice! The hotel is situated in a quiet side street just one minute's stroll from Placa de Catalunya where everything happens! It could not be in a better position to access everything on a city break. The entrance and lobby have fabulous architecture and the ambience is great. The reception staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient - such a good start to our break. A room request we had made could not be fulfilled when we checked in but next day they offered what we had asked for (a lot of hotels would have ignored it once you had checked into a room). Our room was light, bright, clean and spacious. It was also very quiet, at the back of the hotel with a large balcony for sitting, although the view was not good. There would be good views of the street from the front but I'm not sure of the size of balconies and whether you could sit out on them. Also it is likely to be noisy facing on to the street as life goes on well after midnight in Barcelona! On the downside, our room was in need of refurbishment but, judging from other reviews, some rooms may already have been improved. We never had breakfast in the hotel but used the restaurant Contempo for two of our evening meals. It does rather lack atmosphere but we dined early and it was very quiet with only a few other guests there. The food was very tasty and well presented. Would we recommend the hotel? Certainly. Would we choose to stay there in the future? Absolutely. Gracias Hotel Catalonia Plaza Catalunya!
