This hotel was fine to stay at. There was a good breakfast and manager was very helpful. She went out of her way to help us arrange taxis and even drove us to meet a shuttle one morning when the taxi was not available. But if you stay here be prepared to navigate 74 stairs every time you leave and return - it's the only way to reach the hotel. And you have to take your suitcases up the stairs also. I wish it would have been closer to the downtown as was difficult to find places to eat within easy walking distance and other than breakfast there were no meals available at the hotel.

My family and I have visited twice now in the last couple months. It was actually more convenient to book directly with the hotel than through that popular hotel booking site. It's a terrific value and a beautiful location. The family suite was perfect for us, with the kids having their own room together. The room was clean, the bathroom was large, quite modern, and clean as well. They have no restaurant, but the bar is open in the evening, and they have a lovely terrace where you sit as well. There is a lot of steps, but that's part of its charm and the nature of being way up on a hill like it is. For dinner, we just headed into the center of town and found several restaurant from which to choose, and several shops to pick up things you might need on your trip. Breakfast was terrific, with a good selection of food and good coffee. Our only negative for the hotel is the lack of wifi. As we just stayed there one night at a time, it was not a big deal, but it would sure be nice to have. In this region, Hotel Goldgrund is where we will stay on future trips. Great value with breakfast included.

We stayed at the Goldgrund in Aug 2013. It was located on a hill within less than a 10 min. walk from downtown and the Porcellain factory. While its not a fancy hotel, it was quite clean and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. Fair warning, it is on a hill, so you do need to climb a long stairway up to the hotel. For us it was a blessing as it helped us burn off some great German food, Beer, and Wine.

The setting for this hotel is woodsy and quiet. A bit of a walk from town or to train station for trip to Dresden, but we enjoyed the location and we did have a car so that made it easier.
The room was large overlooking the terrace below. Unfortunately it was rainy so we were not able to take advantage. The staff helpful with English better than our limited German so we got by with directions, etc.
Two great meals in town. Schloss Taverna with a congenial host and great food and the other at Gasthaus zur Alstadt a family friendly restaurant with a happy atmosphere.
Worth mentioning...the TI women were great! We bounced in and out all day asking questions about transportation to Dresden, getting directions, suggestions for dinner (well worth it!) and finally keeping my camera safe when I left it behind. We knew these women well by the end of the day!
