Owner description: This art museum is jam packed with masterpieces by the likes of Rubens and Titian, but it is most famous for Rafael's Sistine Madonna.

One of the finest collections in the world - close to, but not better than, the wonderful Gemaldegalerie in Berlin. You will be amazed at the high quality of the works displayed. You might even discover artists new to you who have created masterpieces - for example Battista Dossi's 'Morning'. Botticellli, Durer, Vermeer, Lotto, are well represented. The famous Sistine Madonna by Raphael is there. You will leave feeling uplifted.

The ticket for this art gallery also incorporates entry into the separate Porcelain Museum. The location is the Zwinger originally a killing ground, or outer ward, but later a palace. There are the usual cloakrooms but the audio guide costs some €3. WiFi is free.

The main collection extends over three floors and cover the period from the 15th to 18th centuries.

The Raphael is heralded as the most important painting in the collection. However there are strong showings from other well-known names such as Titian, Vermeer, Rembrandt and Holbein to name just a few.

The gallery is particularly strong on Luca Cranach, both father and son. This is not too surprising as the Elder was the court painter.

There is also a room dedicated to bronzes.

Over two hours should be allocated to this gallery.
