When I visited, the museum was virtually taken over by the Nero exhibition. This was interesting, but most of the rest of the actual museum was out of bounds. However, I did get to see the Constantine ceiling paintings which was the main reason for going, so not all bad news!! Large gift shop, but again taken over by Nero, and little else available.

We've been there during a very rainy day as last part of the three exhibitions concerning the roman emperor Nero. The title was a bit misleading: Nero and the prosecution of the christians. This was only a very small part of the whole story, Nero was only a marginal piece in that history. Nevertheless: very nice representation of a lot of masterpieces. Sculptures, paintings, inscriptions....
The rest of the museum showed us clear religious art.

When I visit a Cathedral museum I expect to find beautiful liturgical vestments and silverware. This museum had one or two chalices but nothing else. The rest of the stuff was Roman ruins and paintings. There was also a lot of modern art. Avoid it if you are looking for interesting old liturgical items - you'll be disappointed.
